3 Delicious Desserts That Don’t Have Sugar

3 Sugar Free Desserts – Simple, Healthy, Guilt-Free

Desserts are hard to resist for those of us who have a sweet tooth.  However, we end up feeling guilty after indulging in the sugar-laden ones like ice-cream, cakes or pastries.  The desserts that we buy have a much higher sugar content than if we were to make them ourselves.  So, instead why not try healthier home-made desserts made with fruits and natural sweeteners to take care of your sweet cravings whether you have them mid-afternoon or after dinner.

Below I share 3 recipes made with ingredients easily available.

1. Creamy Quinoa Coconut Pudding

Ingredients:

½ cup cooked quinoa

½ cup water

1 cup milk or dairy-free milk

½ cup coconut milk

½ tsp cinnamon powder

1 tbsp shredded coconut

Pinch of ground cardamom

1 tsp raw sugar

1 almond, cut finely

Fresh berries (optional)

Method:

In a large pan combine all the ingredients except the almond and berries.

Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes until the quinoa is soft.  If it is too thick, you can add in some more water or milk to get it to your desired consistency.

Pour the quinoa pudding into 2 dessert glasses and layer the chopped almond over before serving. This can also be served with fresh berries.

This quinoa sugar-free dessert can be served as a warm pudding in the colder months or refrigerated and served chilled in the summer.  Serves 2.

2. Chocolate Chia Pudding

Ingredients:

½ cup milk or dairy-free milk

¼ cup coconut milk

1 tbsp cacao powder

1 ½ tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp agave syrup

¼ cup diced avocado

4-6 berries to layer over

Method:

Blend all ingredients except the berries in a high-speed blender until smooth. Scrape down the mixture from the sides of the blender and blend again until you can no longer see the whole chia seeds.

Pour into two dessert glasses and let it set overnight in the refrigerator.  Layer the berries over before serving.

The avocado and coconut milk make it rich and creamy.  Don’t worry you won’t be able to taste the avocado. Serves 2.

3. Cinnamon Apple Crumble

Ingredients:

4 apples

¼ cup water

1 tbsp raw sugar

1 tsp cinnamon powder

50 grams butter

1 cup rolled oats

Method:

Dice the 4 apples.

In a large pot combine the diced apples, sugar, water and cinnamon powder and bring to a boil. Then lower the heat and let it simmer for 15 minutes to cook the apples.  Then remove the lid and cook until all there is no water left, but the apples should be moist.

In a pan melt the butter and add in the oats and lightly cook these until browned.

Spoon the cooked apples into a baking dish and then layer the oats over.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180C for 20 minutes until oats are lightly browned.

Serve with cream or Greek yogurt.  Serves 4 to 5.
