Marvel Universe Bids Farewell to Its Real-Life Hero, Stan Lee

If you grew up with Spider-man, Iron Man, The Hulk, Tho, X-Men .. the list is exhaustive, you were watching the world through HIS eyes – Stan Lee was the brains behind the much-loved superhero characters that entertained us through our childhood, and now our children, perhaps, through generations to come.

STAN LEE – The Real Life Superhero

Stanley Martin Lieber, popularly known as Stan Lee, might have been responsible for creating the most loved superheroes today, but he was no less than a superhuman himself. The 95-year-old was an American comic book writer, editor, publisher, media producer, television host, actor, and voice actor.

Stan Lee

There is much to be learnt from the quick rise of the Man that we all came to know through his onscreen characters. Here are 5 ‘Marvel’ous Stan Lee facts that will help you get to know the man behind the Marvel Comic Heroes.

1. Stan Lee Started Out His Career Working as an Office Boy for Marvel Comics.

Amazingly enough, this meant fetching lunch, proof reading and refilling artist’s ink jars. He was only 19 years old when, owing to a conflict in the company and his escalating creativity, Lee was made interim editor of the company. He ended up working with the company for a good 31 years, mostly as editor-in-chief.

2. Lee Suffered from Great Financial Difficulties Growing Up.

Born on December 28, 1922 in New York,  Stan Lee dreamed of one-day writing ‘The Great American Novel’. Little did he know that he was going to go down in history for his work at none other than Marvel Comics!

3. Lee Revolutionised the World of Comics.

Just in case you’re wondering, it was Lee who made Marvel Comics a multimedia corporation from just a small division of a publishing house. In the late 1950, in competition with DC Comics, Lee’s publisher asked him to create a new superhero team. Lee thought to work on the stories that he believed in since he was getting disgruntled with his monotonous career. For this assignment, Lee, in association with his colleague Jack Kirby, created a team of new-age superheroes.

4. Stan Lee’s Masterpiece – Fantastic Four were born.

What is considered to be Lee’s most famous work – Fantastic Four gave us some of our most favourite superheroes today, like Spider-Man, The Hulk, X-men, Iron Man, Thor and Doctor Strange.

5. Lee Had His Own Action Figure.

In 2007 at the Comic-Con International, a Stan Lee action figure was launched. The body used in the making of the action figure was a re-used mold of a Spider-Man figure with some minor changes. Lee has even appeared in cameo roles in movies based on Marvel characters, like X-Men, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, The Amazing Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, The Avengers, Daredevil.

He is said to have brought in revolution in the comic world through his satirical writing and bringing in the elements of the real world into the world of sci-fi, which is how he used to make these superheroes viable and responsible. A fan of Bruce Lee films and follower of writers like Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle, William Shakespeare, and Charles Dickens, Lee has been honoured with a multitude of awards in his decades long career for his genius contributions to the world of comics. He also has his own star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

If you want to read more about Stan Lee, then take a look at some of the ‘Marvel’ous characters he created. To honour the creator of Marvel Universe, we list here some of the all-powerful Marvel characters, some we are yet to see on big screen, some we don’t see enough.

Galactus

You know you have an edge over other Marvel characters when Lee thinks you stronger.

In a Q&A session on Twitter, a fan had asked him who the most powerful being in the Marvel Universe is according to him, to which his answer was: Galactus. He is a cosmic being and has a history that dates back to a universe which had preceded the existence of the current. He can travel through space and even eat planets. But he is not the most powerful being. Galactus appeared in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He has vast knowledge and possesses unlimited cosmic power. He can teleport himself and other objects. This makes it very hard to defeat him in hand combat. He has been defeated many times, but he always gets restored to full power. Many debates have arisen on who’s more powerful Galactus or Thanos.

Eternity

The very embodiment of time, Eternity can manipulate space, time, and reality itself as he wishes.

His power is even greater than the likes of Galactus. This is a character which Lee had co-created with Steve Ditko. Eternity is a conceptual being that can do unimaginable things with its unlimited abilities.

Living Tribunal

The supreme authority of the Marvel Universe who is omnipotent and charged with maintaining balance in Marvel’s multiverse.

There had been a time when Thanos was the most powerful of beings, and he had single-handedly defeated every superhero with the infinity gauntlet, making him stronger than the entire Marvel Universe. But even HE did not mess with the Living Tribunal. He has three faces, and these represent Vengeance, Equity and Necessity and had been used to represent the universe as a whole in Marvel vs. DC crossover.

Beyonder

He is the most powerful being in the Marvel multiverse, second only to The One Above All.

Beyonder is near omnipotent and a vastly powerful mutant inhuman. He is so strong that all the Marvel abstracts (such as Eternity, Infinity and Death), supreme cosmic beings (such as Galactus and the Stranger), and The Living Tribunal himself were left at his mercy. The Beyonder’s inhuman and mutant powers make him a powerful being and like Galactus, Eternity, and Living Tribunal cannot stand up to him. The Beyonder has been the antagonist of one Marvel’s Secret Wars, and he had pitted good and evil against each other.

One-Above-All

One-Above-All is the most powerful being in the Marvel universe and is also the most powerful being in the multiverse.

He gives Living Tribunal his orders. If the Marvel Universe, as we know it, has a character that can be called a God, One-Above-All is the one. He alone possesses greater power than anyone you can imagine and is believed to represent the creators of marvel (Kirby and Lee). While he is technically another entity, he has taken the form of Kirby to demonstrate what he really is, which is the grand authority in the marvel universe.
