Legend, Veteran, and Revered actor, Qavi Khan passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness in Canada at the age of 80.

Words would fall short to pay tribute to his tremendous contributions to Pakistani Television, movies, and Theatre. It is not just our industry today that is solemn but the country as a whole, paying tributes to the man who set out on his journey of being an actor and continued to hone his craft for 4 decades. Born in the pre–partition era in 1942, November 13th with his roots in Peshawar.
The emergence of His Career
He has been the foundation and the bedrock of the Pakistani industry itself. His career began as a child artist, later starting his film career in 1965 and in 1966 appeared in PTV’s Black and White drama Lakhon Mein Teen.
One of his famous dramas was “Andhera Ujala” which set him out on his journey of stardom with fellow actors Irfan Khoosat and Jamil Fakhri in the 1960s. His most acclaimed dramas include but are not limited to Dhoop Kinarey, Alif Allah or Insan, Durre Shehwar, and Ishq Jalebi and we are sure you all have witnessed his craft in these hits.
He was also an extremely applauded theater actor and headed theatre organizations. Qavi Khan married in 1968 and had four children all of whom chose to settle abroad.
Last Seen In
He was just seen last year in two projects, Pehchaan and Meri Shehzadi, the latter of which he sadly wasn’t able to continue due to his declining health. He was last seen in cinemas in Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, which starred Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa.
Source of Inspiration
In the course of his extensive career in television, theatre, and films, he even ventured into being a director. However, his heart belonged to his creative talents and he was a man who cared about that the most.
In his interviews, he claimed to still continue to work at perfecting his craft. When asked about his best role, he said “The best is yet to be. I am still in search of the role which will bring the best out of me as an actor and I will remain in quest of that throughout my life.” A renowned actor uttering these words after 40 years of an illustrious career is really all the inspiration one needs.
Lifetime Achievements
A career spanning 40 years and 200 films is a testament to being one of the greats itself, he was honored with various awards throughout his life. Pride of Performance in 1980, Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2012, and the LSA Achievement award and Nishan e Imtiaz just last year in August. He had been a long-standing and proud flag bearer of our culture and the arts itself.
Qavi Khan was under treatment in Canada and according to his son Adnan Qavi Khan was suffering from cancer. As we bid farewell to a legend, our thoughts, and prayers are with his loved ones and fans.
