Kuch Ankahi – Will Aliya be okay if the situation was swapped, and it was Salman celebrating Sehrish’s birthday and not telling her anything?

How will we react as audiences?
Aliya should not have gone to Asfar’s house alone. Are we saying this because she is a girl? No, it is because we would consider it inappropriate for anyone to compromise a professional relationship, especially when this action can send out the wrong idea or can lead-on someone. From a security point of view too, it was not a wise decision.
The drama insinuates beautifully, the concept of what is appropriate and what is not, the fine line between being independent and being silly, and most importantly, the responsibility one shoulders when one steps out into the working world.
Aliya being the wise person she is shown to be, should have realized how Asfar divulging his sad history to her, is already a sign of blurring the relationship between a boss and an employee. She cannot be blind to how Asfar is attracted to her. But maybe we are shown that sometimes, the most wise among us, make erroneous decisions. She was also not consistent in her reasoning for being there.
Before we start critiquing Aliya lighting candles for Asfar, we must understand, this had to be shown to bring home the above message – to make Aliya and (we realize too) that what happened, should not have happened.
The family’s reaction to Aliya staying late aptly reflected diverse reactions from us as a society, with Agha Jaan not making Aliya feel guilty about anything, yet making her realize her error in judgment.
Agha Jaan schooling Aliya but at the same time telling her he trusts her was so, so fabulous… where the father advises his daughter, the mother advises Salman. Both characters are wise, nontoxic, and super endearing! If Agha Jaan hadn’t made Aliya realize she needs to clear the air with Salman, she mightn’t have felt she owes him that much. Parenting is such a finely balanced Art Kuch Ankahi makes us read between the lines
Aliya waiting for Salman to appear on the chhat, Salman waiting for a message from her…and then both lose a chance to clear the air because of their egos – Is Salman being a typical man, for expecting Aliya to tell him things? Isn’t that what two people in love would do, even two friends would do? Let’s make a clear distinction, he is not expecting her to ask permission, he just wants her to let him know, maybe consult him… is it wrong? Wouldn’t Aliya expect the same? Do we, at times, become unfair to men in our quest for women’s rights and independence?
While Salman’s mother is a refreshing character who always shows the mirror to Salman, maybe this time, she is asking too much from Salman. Is it really fair to expect Salman to not ask Aliya anything, not expect anything from her?
Although we have to say, on the other hand, that Almas advising Salman to give Aliya the benefit of the doubt is so endearing. The mother of a son always playing Devil’s Advocate (we need more like her) even though we felt Salman’s anger was justified!
Thanvi uncle is taking all the right steps and trying to win Sofia phuppo, but she is not giving up. We wish Almas had advised Sofia, that the reason to marry Thanvi is because he is a nice guy, and not because life is lonely and difficult if you don’t marry.
We wait anxiously to find out if Saif would really bring Shagufta to his house? Or did he say this to make his mother value Samiya more?
And lastly, let us know in comments if you feel Aliya needs to explain herself to Salman … or not!
