A Riveting Tale Of Desire, Conspiracy And Gunah
Gunah treats you to fascinating storytelling in terms of script, direction, and impressive performances by some of the seasoned players of the industry. Here is why you must catch it on Express TV tonight.
The Story
Malik Hayat’s wife Gul Noor has (allegedly) run away with Ahmed, who is also his children’s tutor. Ahmed’s mother believes it to be untrue and wants to report him missing in the police station, which only happened once the new SHO, Sabiha played by Rabia Butt comes into town. It has been fifteen days since both Gul (Juggun Kazim) and Ahmed (Ali Raza) have been missing.
The storytelling is engaging, gradually revealing the tale layer by layer in flashbacks, stealthily drawing the viewer into a sinister mystery. One will keep guessing what really happened, who is at fault, who is concealing the truth and what will Malik Hayat (Sarmad Khoosat) do now?
Characters
Characters are layered yet you might see yourself relating to them at one point and understanding their motivations at another. This makes the drama exciting and unpredictable at the same time. The presence of Saba Qamar aka Gul Meher and Rabia Butt aka Sabiha in one frame was enough to give one goosebumps. Add to that Sarmad Khoosat aka Malik Hayat Khan as feudal lord and you wonder how the characters will spin off on each other – so powerful is each one on his/her own.
Ali Raza as Ahmad shines in his brief onscreen moments. We see him as Danyal in Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri in a completely different avatar. Good to see an ensemble cast that holds its own – promising young talent not to be missed!
Stellar Direction & Casting
It is the age-old story of loving and desiring something that is not allowed or is inaccessible, but to what extent you will go to get it? However, the watch is refreshing and engrossing due to impressive execution. The casting deserves a mention here as all four main leads take to their roles like a fish to water. Where Rabia Butt is a phenomenal dream come true as a police officer who plays it honest yet street smart, Saba Qamar adds intense drama, Juggun, a feel of innocence and Sarmad Khoosat, in a never seen before role cuts a dangerously silent, yet threatening figure – one to be reckoned with for sure.
All this in the first episode just goes to show that we have a watch and a half in the making!
Oh, don’t miss the cameo by our very own Adnan Sarwar – director as SHO Saleem who does a notable job at making a mark in his brief moments on screen!
Skip It Or Stream It?
If you are seeking an intense watch, emotional, mysterious, and engaging, then this might be the one for you. Did we spoil everything? Not really! The twist at the end of the very first episode will surprise you and keep you hooked for the next episode – Trust us!
Another credit to Gunah is the excellent production quality and cinematography. A special mention to DOP Omar Daraz and Zaid Safdar Sandhu for the lighting and other technical aspects in various shots. The drama gives you the feel of watching a web series on an OTT platform such as Netflix or Amazon in every aspect.
Gunah is an exciting mini-series that will captivate audiences every Thursday on both Express TV Channel and YouTube. Directed by Adnan Sarwar, known for his previous works such as Motorcycle Girl, Barwaan Khiladi, and Shah, the series promises a thrilling and engaging experience. The script is by Mohsin Ali, and the cast includes Sarmad Khoosat (Malik Hayat0, Juggun Kazim (Gul Noor), and Saba Qamar (Gul Meher). Additional cast includes Ali Razz (Ahmed) and Rabia Butt (SHO Sabiha).
