Stargazers, it’s time to get ready for 2 cosmic wonders in August, 1 supermoon which will be on display tonight in Pakistan. Want to find out more? Read on!

An astronomical event, nothing short of a cosmic wonder is set to captivate stargazers, dreamers, scientists and lovers of the celestial bodies across the world but what is it going to be?
TBH, great if you are a science genius but in case if like us, you didn’t really ace your science exams or struggle to stay awake when listening to science talks, we shall try our best to break it down in the most fascinating yet simple way. So lets dive right in!
What Time Can You Set Your Sights On The Celestial Event In Pakistan?
The enchanting celestial body aka the moon is set to be a sight to behold this August. It will appear brighter and bigger than usual in all its glory with the sturgeon super moon visible this Tuesday (TODAY) with its peak expected at 11:32 pm in Pakistan. Following a rare blue super moon coming at the end of the month.
Breaking Down The Phenomena Of Super Moons & The Blue Moon
The presence of the two super moons in one month culminates a rare blue super moon. A Super moon is a phenomenon that takes place when a full moon is near or around its closest point orbiting the earth resulting in it appearing up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter compared to when its at its furthest point from the earth. Scientists and Astronomers tend to refer to it as a “perigean full moon.”
Why This Super Moon Is Also Known As The Sturgeon Moon
The first above mentioned phenomena of August is traditionally called the “Sturgeon Moon” as it occurs at the same time of the year as when the abundance of the large and rather ancient fresh water fish (Sturgeons) in North America’s Great Lakes was discovered millions of years ago.
An Upcoming “Rare” Blue Super Moon On August 30th
The moon will be even closer and shine even brighter on the night of August 30th due to the presence of a rare super blue moon – occurs when two super moons take place in the same month. Though, point to be noted, the blue moon won’t actually be blue in colour (much to our visual disappointment) as per NASA.
This blue supermoon taking place on August 30th will be the only one until 2032. Really a once in a blue moon? By chance did you ever wonder where did this expression originate from…It actually dates back to the 16th century when a blue moon was referred to as something that rarely happened.
However, NASA breaks it to us how blue moons aren’t actually all that rare and they recur every two and a half years or so. HOWEVER, blue super moons (occurring on August 30th) are actually rare! The last blue super moon, took place in December 2009.
So any chance you might be setting up a nice spot out in the wild and dusting off your binoculars to stargaze this month? No? Just us? Because the next time two super moons will occur in the same month will be January 2037! About 14 years, when we are 14 years older and perhaps not so wise?
