Jhok Sarkar is directed by Saife Hassan and written by Hashim Nadeem. The drama on HUM TV stars Farhan Saeed, Asif Raza Mir, Hiba Bukhari, Maham Shahid, Faiza Gilani, Usman Javed, Saqib Sumeer and Sakina Samo. The drama set in the village of Jhok Siyal is no doubt, upping the game in Pakistani dramas genres and also serving a dual purpose. You ask what? Pakistani Dramas Doing Justice To Female Leads In Thrillers
It is great to see Pakistani dramas like Jhok Sarkar doing justice to our female leads, even if it might be also a love story with lots of action, mystery and thrill – the female leads are doing much more than just pandering to the stereotypical wishes and demands of only adding to the narrative with cute scenes, submissiveness and feminine delicacy. They are truly adding value to the narrative, part of the mystery, thrill and action thus ensuring to keep our interest going with each episode.
They seem to be equally important in the storyline, in the fight against Meeral and Peeral, the wrongs in society and are determined to become a part in fixing it all. Sassi and Noori are both strong female characters, part of the thriller narrative as much as the policemen or Meeral and Peeral for that matter. Its commendable how in such a male driven narrative, these 2 female leads stand out with their strength, substance and how empowered they are. Sure, they might not be empowered in the traditional sense but they are empowered in their approach to life and in how they are helping for the cause.
Noori’s Resilience, Sharpness & Strength Despite Her Heartbreak
Noori is resilient, sharp and resourceful. Her strength is resounding. While the love of her life was Shaukat who she couldn’t be with, she was forced to marry Peeral. But even in that dreadful situation, she managed to flip it and attempt at turning the tables in her favor. She laid down three crucial conditions: ensuring Shaukat’s safety, the chance to visit her family and home, and settling her father’s debts. She knows what message to pass on, when to pass it on and how to pass it on.
She was utterly devastated after being parted from the love of her life but she persevered. She navigated her circumstances with resilience, refusing to remain a helpless damsel in distress, drowning in sorrow. Even as Sassi conveys the tragic news of Shaukat’s demise to Noori, a wave of grief and agony takes over her but she makes sure to quickly return to being composed, her thoughts sharply focused on what her next steps will be. She is determined to seek revenge and we believe Noori will do so because she is one who doesn’t back down that easy.
Her heartbreak may just have intensified the darkness and fueled her desires of revenge.
Sassi’s Intuitive Strength & Soon To Be Seen Action Skills
Sassi isn’t merely ASP Arsalan’s romantic interest or a vulnerable teacher in trouble. The recent episode confirms Sassi’s remarkable intuition and impending display of her newfound action skills. She discreetly conveys messages to ASP Arsalan and Noori, unravels connections, and diligently conducts her detective duties.
Meeral, now, believes ASP Arsalan being out of the picture presents an opportunity to target Sassi and so he sent his men to scale the walls of her house and bring her to him. At this point, we were left fearing for Sassi, as neither ASP Arsalan nor his men will be able to save her…but Sassi needs no saving. She is rather smart and strong on her own and we love it. Much to our delight, the drama’s creators had an unexpected surprise in store, leaving us pleasantly astonished as Sassi retrieved a hidden firearm from beneath her bed.
Subsequently, as she loads the gun, a wonderful sight is in front of us on our TV screens, ushering in one of the very few or rather first, action heroine in our drama productions. It is truly a marvel to witness, the female characters given as much thought, part and being seamlessly integrated into the gripping thriller narrative. Sassi is portrayed as a character brimming with strength and intelligence, her intuition a guiding force. She possesses the ability to protect herself effectively, and rather than succumbing to adversity or resorting to self-harm, the creators have depicted her as an absolute empowering female character.
