22 Qadam – Amu finally calls Fari. It is a happy moment when the sisters finally connect, yet intensely tragic as we finally uncover the truth behind Amu not speaking with Fari. Junaid finally erupts, shocking both Fari and us, but then, leaves us feeling as helpless as himself with his confession, that despite all the bitterness and anger, he still loves Fari.
Amu’s Ordeal
It was a heartbreaking scene as Amu related her ordeal to Fari and the physical pain she is going through. The director subtly highlights Amu’s physical scarring, which becomes more evident soon after, showing the marks of abuse – the moment was like giving viewers a hit of reality with gradual yet undeniable intent.
Thank God Fari is the voice of reason that she has always been, and urges Amu to escape immediately. The drama highlights how girls and their families are helpless and don’t really know how to get out of such situations when they are living abroad, away from family.
Oh, our anger and disappointment with their mother, but we should have seen this coming. How can she sacrifice her daughter and ask Amu to keep suffering abuse? Fari still cannot bring herself to play cricket. Hopefully once Amu is okay, she will go back to playing. Fari was right, Amu and her mother just couldn’t understand their father.
Junaid And Fari Speak Finally!
We loved the scene between Junaid and Fari. Finally, both of them said whatever was in their hearts, even though these were harsh and brutal words, yet they needed this confrontation. However, 22 Qadam should have avoided showing Junaid attempting to slit his wrist. A trigger warning could have been added. This scene could have been traumatic for many to watch and could have been a trigger for those who might have struggled with a sensitive situation.
Juanid’s Torment
Junaid is that guy stuck between his shattered dreams and love. He cannot stop blaming Fari for what happened to him but at the same time, cannot stop loving her either. When we think about his situation, we feel for him deeply and sympathy fills our heart, but then his harsh words bring us back to reality and we feel he is being unreasonable. Are we all expecting an unreal and a very quick turnaround from Junaid? After all, he has lost his entire career… and his life’s dream.
Liza stayed true to herself and this time, she really gave a piece of her mind to Junaid for misbehaving with Fari. We hope that after this outburst, Junaid will finally come to his senses and start taking baby steps towards life.
22 Qadam has us in its grip. The storytelling is keeping us heavily invested in the life journey of all the characters, be it Amo, Junaid or Fari. We have been through a turmoil of emotions and hope we come to the other side, as our hero and heroines find a way out and give us moments of triumph yet again!
