Ushna Shah is a Pakistani-Canadian actress, well-known for her talent and versatility in Pakistani dramas. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, but raised in Canada. She debuted in 2013 with the drama “Mere Khwabon Ka Diya” and starred in numerous successful shows like “Bashar Momin,” “Alif Allah Aur Insan,” and most recently, “Daurr” She is admired for her talent, activism, and positive role model attitude.

“I think to each his own but I love it, I really want to have my husband’s last name but at the same time i feel like I have such an identity, like Ushna Shah just runs off your mouth. Even Hamza says this like I don’t want you to lose the Shah but he also wants the Amin.”

Why Should We Watch the Movie, “Chikkar”? What Impressions Will It Leave on Viewers?
Ushna Shah’s new movie Chikkar just released in cinemas, hear it straight from the star why she thinks audiences should go watch the movie.
“I’m very proud of it, although I am not a big part of it, it’s more about the men. I mean, I am a part of it, but it’s about Usman’s character mostly, like most films are about heroes. But It’s a very intelligent film.
So, it has a smart humor, it’s an all-rounder film. Your intelligent, elite intellectual crowd will like it and your masses will also like it because it’s relatable. We’ve shown every social class. We’ve captured small things and it’s made beautifully, by the top, most talented people.”
Is Your Husband A Romantic?
“He is really romantic, he gets me flowers, he is really caring and loving but then we’ll have these amazing moments and then I’ll try to live my fantasy jo main naqli karte ve aari ho itne saalon se dramas mein. You know I bring something and I want to sit and I want him to like hold my hand and say something sweet, he’s always holding my hand, but then he’ll make a joke. He loves to make me laugh and so koi bhi sweet romantic moment hou, he has to make an inappropriate joke.”

What’s The Most Romantic Thing He Has Done For You?
Hint: It’s only one of the biggest events of her life…and it sure was dreamy.
“So he surprised me and he proposed to me in the most romantic way at sunset, on an island, a small sandbar, which is only there at sunset and sunrise otherwise it is hidden in the high tide. So he took me there and he got the ring that I had given him as a hint that I like this type of diamond. It took him months to get it made.”

“But I really enjoy being domestic. I clean and stuff. I do laundry, I love doing laundry.”
Can you guess the first meal she cooked for her husband? It’s an unexpected one…”The first thing I made for him in Vienna was a TikTok type Instagram recipe. I bought an air fryer to make something healthy, he ate it and it was raw chicken. I tried making chicken kebabs. Then I made a pasta which was really good. I made it for him 2-3 times and he really liked it. So, one time when I was coming back, I thought I’ll make a lot of it and leave it. So I let it simmer for 2 hours, because I thought it would keep simmering.
The whole room smelled like it was burning, the whole pasta sauce smelled like it was burning. Then he came and ate 2 plates in front of me and pretended that he liked it. And I was like, please don’t eat it. He’s like, no I love it, it’s amazing.” How sweet!?!

Ushna shared the reasons she said yes to the movie: “It’s actually a fantastic script. I don’t know if you’ve heard of Saif Zaheeruddin. He is a very renowned ad film director and it’s his debut film. So his specialty has always been realism content. He has a lot of award winning, realistic and funny ads. It’s a crime thriller about an SSP officer, Sarmad Zaman, who is played by Usman Mukhtar. There’s a murder case against him. He and his wife, who is played by me, Ayla Sarmad and she is a cricketer. So they move to a small town where they have to solve a case. So this is a social issue, commentary. It’s dark in some places but it has so much humour. It’s very funny.”
She cautions and says:
“But it’s intelligent humour. It’s not slapstick comedy, it’s dark comedy. So it’s an 8 day social diary. It’s very fast paced and very interesting. And the cast is very good. In fact, when the screening was done in front of the censor board, it got a standing ovation and everyone praised the cast of the movie. Because we have Ali Sheikh, the theatre actor, we have Saleem Mairaj, we have Adnan Shah Tipu, we have Nausheen Shah, we have Faryal Mehmood. So it’s a very character heavy movie.”

Her No Glam Look In The Movie
“Three women have very strong characters. I said I want to look good but no, they made me a cricketer. They didn’t even let me do makeup. There was no hair stylist and my hair was in a bun. While standing next to me were the most beautiful Faryal Mehmood and Nausheen Shah and I was in the poster, I didn’t even have makeup on, I put a little bit of lip tint on and they said, remove this. So, there’s no glam in that sense.”
How Was It Like Working With Usman Mukhtar In Chikkar?
She joked “he is so mean but just kidding he is a very nice person.”
“So I’m playing his wife. We’re supposed to have great chemistry because Usman’s scenes are with everyone but all my scenes are with Usman. So we have to have this excellent chemistry. So I met him and I’m thinking I’ll be friends with him. And he’s like a nice guy. But he wouldn’t even sit in the tent, wouldn’t even sit with me for a couple of days.
So I called up Kubra because she’s very good friends with Usman. I said, Kubra, your friend is very rude. I was like, what is his problem? He hates me and I want to act with him but he’s not talking to me for a minute. I don’t know what’s wrong with him. He’s shy basically, he’s an introvert, so Kubra told him and then throughout this film, both director who I knew since so long and then Usman used to make fun of me, continuously.
