Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz attended a police passing out parade in Lahore on Thursday, dressed in a police uniform. She received a guard of honour and presented awards to the top achievers from the Police Training College. As the chief guest, she reviewed the parade during the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, the Punjab CM said her government wants to increase the number of female cops in the police department.”I realized how much of a big responsibility it is after wearing the police uniform.”
“The police uniform I am wearing today, this is my first time. Jab mainay yeh police ka uniform pehna, tou mujhay yeh ehsaas hua kay chahay woh CM ki kursi par bethna ho, CM ka oath lena ho, ya woh police ka uniform ho, yeh kitni bari zimmedari hai.”
Her Words Of Wisdom To The Officers
She spoke about how, although she makes decisions in the CM seat, the officers who have trained from the academy are responsible for implementing them, and that itself is a bigger responsibility. Because women are often soft-hearted and forgive many things, she emphasized that at the level they are at, justice must prevail. If a helpless, oppressed person comes to you, then your compassion should be reserved for them. “Zaalim kay liye apkay dil mai koi jaga nae honi chahye,” she added.
“It is necessary for the oppressor to receive their punishment,” she stated. She added that when she has to make a difficult decision for an oppressor, she does so with a heavy heart because she does not harbor feelings of revenge in her heart.
Reportedly, Someone Filed A Case!
According to Dawn News, a request to file a case against her for wearing a police uniform has been submitted in the Session Court, Lahore. However, the request mentioned how no action has been taken thus far. The request emphasized that, according to the law, nobody can wear the uniforms of governmental departments. While some argue, citing the law, that individuals not employed by these governmental bodies should not wear the uniform, others perceive this as another attempt to stay in the limelight and indulge in her some costume day shenanigans. However, some argue that if actors in dramas and movies can wear police uniforms, why can’t the CM? They view it as her effort to appreciate and encourage the Punjab Police.
