The event was hosted by Pasha Fabrics at Cafe Koel art gallery in Karachi, run by Noor Jehan Bilgrami, who was also present at the occasion. Prominent business figures and other noted personalities were also present at the launch. The event was an enlightening and enjoyable affair, and offered attendees a glimpse into the craftsmanship and heritage behind Zargar.
Zargar features articles stitched from an exquisite malmal fabric that celebrates South Asia’s legendary artistry and heritage and its artists. Zargar captures the essence of centuries-old malmal-weaving, renowned for its delicate texture and ethereal beauty. Meticulously crafted using 215 double-count cotton fiber—surpassing the typical high-quality designer fabric standard of 180 counts—Zargar offers a luxurious feel enhanced by intricate embroidery. The finished fabric is hand-embroidered with 3-ply thread to give maximum relief to the design. Designed for luxury connoisseurs, Zargar epitomizes sophistication and sets a new standard for elegance.
Zargar is an intricate form of embroidery done on muslin cloth. This fabric is challenging to work with due to its thinness. Despite this difficulty, the team has been dedicatedly working on Zargar embroidery for over 6-7 years, creating detailed and exquisite designs on the delicate muslin.
I never imagined that the work we’ve seen in books and museums is being done in Pakistan.
Shehnaz Ismail
