Bismil – It scares you and makes you wonder that if at any stage in life, a wife chooses to make her own decisions, if she doesn’t spoil and pamper her husband enough, she can easily lose her to another woman.

Problematic Mindset
While the post reflects a sad and harsh reality of an older man cheating on his wife with a younger and beautiful girl, but did the drama really have to make Reham’s character unnecessarily head strong and at times, make you think she could have listened to him? Can the drama unintentionally tell women not to have a mind of their own and always give priority to what the husband wants over her own desires, wishes, plans or judgements.
“Aurat Ka Husn Aur Jawaani Buhat Tezi Se Dhalte Hain, Jabke Mard…” The narrative delivered a very problematic mindset, where Tauqeer dwells upon how his wife Reham isn’t capable of looking attractive anymore as age will, after all, begin to show on a woman’s face, but implied that a man can still look young for much longer. Tauqeer’s reflections, albeit to himself, amplify a regressive mindset that has, needless to say, already done a great deal of damage in our society, and perhaps also led many to justify a second marriage to a younger woman?
And that’s not all. Tauqeer earlier, had also snapped back at son Moosa to reprimand him…that he couldn’t “handle” a girl(?), referring to the girl he plans to marry. The dialogue itself did not need to be supported by any validation – the mindset itself that women need “handling” was problematic enough.
Masooma vs Reham
The drama constantly plays with your emotions, just when you think Masooma is pure evil, Reham’s character does something that creates a soft corner in your heart for Masooma. Masooma’s outburst to her mother after Reham making her post the video makes you wonder, is it really true that children who study in schools that cater to students beyond their own social class, go through extreme emotional stress and trauma that can also lead to distorting values and principles in life?
Do wealth and beauty attract each other to the extent of blurring the lines between right and wrong? While Masooma makes it clear to Tauqeer that his being rich is a major factor for her attraction to him, she also balances it by highlighting him being focused, responsible and ambitious in life as compared to anyone younger than him. But that is not all, she asks him if he would even look at her if she wasn’t that beautiful, making him realize that if her reasons are shallow, so are his reasons for being interested in her.
A Sensitive Side Of Moosa
Moosa, their son, highlights the softer and more sensitive side of men in Bismil. It is interesting to see how his relationship with his father is extremely strong and very candid. He is also someone who is embracing his emotions and his inabilities, whatever they may be, without any hesitation. How will Moosa react when he finds the truth about Masooma and his father?
Through Moosa, the drama also highlights the impact parents’ decisions and relationship has on children, no matter what age they maybe.
