5 Reasons Why We Need A Noor Jahan Prequel

After an emotional finale, Noor Jahan has finally come to an end, but if we’re being honest, it feels like we’re only halfway through her story. While we saw the matriarch’s empire unravel and the power shifts among her daughters-in-law, there’s still so much we don’t know about the woman at the heart of it all.

Noor Jahan, Saba Hamid

Noor Jahan wasn’t just born resilient and sharp—something, or many things, shaped her into the complex character we saw on screen. Here are 5 reasons why we think Noor Jahan deserves a prequel!

1. The Making of a Matriarch: Noor Jahan’s Path to Power

Beneath Noor Jahan’s dominance lies a story of struggle and determination. A prequel could explore how she defied societal expectations and personal challenges to establish her jewelry empire, rising to power against all odds. This backstory would not only showcase her entrepreneurial brilliance but also help viewers understand why she is the way she is—unyielding, controlling, and fiercely protective of her family’s future. What hardships did she endure, and how did she overturn her fate? By seeing how she fought for every inch of success, viewers could gain a deeper understanding of her character’s motivations and her complex relationship with power.

2. The Early Lives of Hunaid, Safeer, and Murad

Noor Jahan’s sons may seem like polar opposites, but her control shapes their personalities in fascinating ways. A prequel could dive into their childhoods, offering insights into how Hunaid became her right-hand man, with anger issues rooted in deep emotional scars. Safeer, on the other hand, is a bit of a lost soul, constantly pulled in different directions, never truly finding his footing. Then there’s Murad—loyal and obedient, yet not without his distinct personality. Exploring their early years would make their adult struggles far more relatable, helping viewers understand why they each turned out the way they did and adding depth to the family dynamics at play.

3. The Lovestory Between Noor Jehan & Ikhtiyar Shah

We’ve seen Noor Jahan’s intense fixation on having a grandson and naming him after her late husband, Ikhtiyar Shah. But we haven’t seen the love story between Noor Jahan and Ikhtiyar Shah that fueled this obsession. A prequel could delve into their relationship, shedding light on why she clings so fiercely to his memory and legacy. Was Ikhtiyar Shah the driving force behind Noor Jahan’s rise, or was there more to their bond? Understanding their love story would add depth to Noor Jahan’s character, explaining her motivations and the emotional weight behind her desire to pass on his name.

4. Was Her hatred For Mukhtiar Shah Truly Justified, Or Was There More To The Story?

A prequel to Noor Jahan could explore the deep-rooted animosity between Noor Jahan and Mukhtiar Shah, shedding light on whether her hatred was truly justified. We know Mukhtiar Shah never accepted Noor Jahan, but was that rejection the sole reason for her bitterness? Or was there more to the mental torture she endured? The prequel could delve into the emotional scars Noor Jahan carried — the societal pressures, perhaps even a strained family dynamic, that led her to become the controlling, tough woman we see. Was she trying to protect herself from past vulnerabilities, or was the rift with Mukhtiar Shah a two-sided affair where both suffered in different ways? A deep dive into Noor Jahan’s formative years could reveal the complexities of her psyche, making her more relatable and showing that even a villainous character like her has layers of pain that shape her tough exterior.

5. Why Did Noor Jahan Fear Having Daughters In The Family?

Noor Jahan’s aversion to her sons having daughters is one of the most intriguing aspects of her character. Despite her tough exterior, we see a glimpse of vulnerability in her letter to Noor Bano (Kubra Khan) where she admits she always wanted a daughter. This contradiction suggests that Noor Jahan’s refusal for her sons to have daughters may stem from a protective instinct. As a woman who endured rejection and hardship, she might have feared that any daughter born into her family would face the same struggles, mistreatment, or societal pressures she did. Perhaps, in her mind, the absence of daughters was a way to shield them from the harsh realities she had to face herself. It could also reflect her deep internalized misogyny, shaped by her trauma and past, where she thought daughters were more vulnerable in a patriarchal society. We’d love to see a deeper dive into why Noor Jahan developed such a mindset—what traumas shaped this complicated view, and what vulnerabilities she was hiding behind that steely exterior.

As Noor Jahan leaves us with so many lingering questions, we can’t help but think about the moments we didn’t get to see — the ones that made her who she was. What broke her heart? What made her choose power over vulnerability? A prequel would be a perfect opportunity to balance the toxic, manipulative side of her character with the more human moments: the heartbreaks, the personal wins, and the challenges she faced that led her to build her emotional walls. We’d love to see her story unfold in a way that gives depth to her motivations, making her not just a villain, but a woman shaped by her circumstances… holding up a mirror & perhaps a message, to many real life Noor Jahan’s we are consciously or unconsciously guilty of giving birth to, in our society.
