Duniyapur: Ana has understood the assignment it seems, will Shamshir follow close behind?

If you’re tired of the same old saas bahu, go watch Duniyapur where the saas and bahu have been transformed into two warring tribes, one led by none other than Ana, and the other, still coming of age, Shahmir with the fast-dwindling Adam clan behind him. Jokes apart, that was just to get your attention!
And here’s the latest episode review
Duniyapur this week dropped an episode which showed us that the Duniyapur characters do exactly what they say, there is no detour in the plan; as Shamsher fell to his death, Adam’s truck was attacked with a bid to kill him and Shahmir, and Ana, dear, seemingly soft-hearted Ana with a seemingly hard heart of stone, led the admirable foray into the combat zone.
If Duniyapur is warming up, that’s an understatement
To watch a young girl take on a decidedly patriarchal clan is perhaps, the USP for the episodes to come. Ramsha Khan as Ana seems to be relishing her role as the all-powerful, ruthless ruler of the Nawab clan. She despises her dad, in fact, all men, as she tells Nimra that they all appear the same to her. Yet, is there a tender space in her heart, one she’d rather not reveal, as she tells Nimra to go meet her brother before he is released and pardons Shahmir’s life all in one epsiode, at least letting him live to fight another day, yet also, showing off the tough girl exterior as she tells Zoheb he’s to learn to follow and respect her orders if he wants to accompany her. Her hatred of her father is palpable and that, combined with the grief she holds in her heart after her beloved brother Farhad passed away, leaves no room for sympathy or a show of weakness outwardly at least, to her family and the enemy camp.
Ana is playing her cards right, if she wants to keep control of Duniyapur
If Ana is to hold her grip on Duniyapur, she has to maintain a tough outer shell, be ruthless and keep sway of her kingdom with an iron fist – one she seems to be getting quite good at. Looking at what she has to deal with around her, the likes of her stepmom, cruel father and of course, the Adams thirst for revenge, it seems Ana has understood the assignment well and good.
But while she is winning at the control game, she might have met a roadblock as she attempts to reign in Zabardast Qasai, who is, after all, a remnant from the past era, the era that saw her family fall to the Adams. For once, we saw her squirm a bit as Zabardast reminded her of the olden days and didn’t seem to hassled by her threats.
Why did Ana save Shahmir?
Is she not willing to take a life unnecessarily? And why did she not help Nimra? As a woman, one would imagine that Ana would feel for the misery and misfortune of an innocent one. Or is she merely waiting till she is strong enough to confront her father and older step mom? By asking Nimra to carve her own path, is she merely ignoring her cries for help, or helping her help herself? There is no way Ana could be ignorant of the treatment meted out to Nimra, so perhaps, it is only a matter of time till Nimra either finds her way, or Ana is forced to help her (the goodness in her, suppressed for now, resurfacing when she sees a wrong she can no longer ignore).
Mir Hassan, SHO Duniyapur has his work cut out for him. Especially as he is up against a corrupt police system who is already in cohorts with Aurangzeb. Is there really any hope for him? Will he be able to save Adam or will he also become a pawn in the larger game plan of the Adams vs Nawabs?
Shahmir is still finding his feet
And one hopes that his visit to Zabardast Qasai and his father’s mentorship will help him become a force to be reckoned with. However, is this why we were watching Duniyapur? For both Ana and Shahmir to be changed by the forces of revenge or… is this just the beginning of their journey as their goodness and desire to seek peace surfaces eventually to transform the region into one that sets aside cruelty, bloodshed and revenge?
For all the illegal business both clans are running, from which they earn their livelihood, giving up control and choosing a path of righteousness is not really on the cards for now.
Duniyapur is certainly warming up and we hope the drama keeps us engaged as we run out of characters fast. Every episode marks the killing of one or more inhabitants in Duniyapur; Nayab, Farhad, Furqan, Shamsher, and Nayab’s wife have already met their end. Who’s next?
Drop us a comment and tell us if you’re watching Duniyapur and, is it really a break from the saas bahu prime time watch?
