Dil Wali Gali Mein: Trouble in Deeju and Mujji’s Paradise or a Reality Check? We’re About to Find Out Soon. Thoughts on the latest episodes.

Dil Wali Gali Mein
Dil Wali Gali Mein

Is Deeju and Mujji’s current life the dream come true for newly married couples? Or is it heading towards a lesson for young couples and their problematic families? They seemed to have navigated the rough edges, from job issues, living arrangements, family problems, privacy issues, attached bathroom, all in a matter of 15 episodes.

But hold on, DWGM is never all that it seems, and if we haven’t learnt that as viewers then what have we even been watching? Mujji might be without a job now, their families aren’t really on the same page, the place they live in presently, although, much beyond their expectations, paintings, sofa, swanky apartment and all, will their new-found life allow them to achieve everything they wanted, other than the attached bathroom? All is not well in the DWGM household. Deeju might be seeking a job soon, and Mujji is back to square one – no job, no future and diminishing marginal returns on privacy and the attached bathroom might have set in.

When young couples go against their family’s wishes and marry, they often face turbulent times ahead. Deeju and Mujji have had their fair share, but is their journey going to also portray the journey of their families? We’re not sure if the narrative will message that their families were at fault for not giving them space, or they were at fault, for not trying to be more accommodating.

DWGM has us questioning which approach the creators will take eventually? Pro young couples who crave privacy and space or, pro joint family?

But it must be said that the drama seems to take a dive into make-believe with Sakhi and his hitmen adding a fantastic twist to Deeju and Mujji’s troubles, but then, adds a reality check with Mujji’s job challenges and the family dynamics- his and hers, making it all seem very real. DWGM must be appreciated for the raw feel it spins on-screen, e.g. Deeju catching a bone in her mouth while eating, then lightening up the mood, then having a candid conversation with Mujji at night when he’s missing his mom, with Anwar’s unexpected arrival. And then, ever so subtly, Mujji asking Deeju not to speak of Tamkinat negatively.

The drama keeps us guessing and on edge, as despite their new, near perfect lifestyle, there seems to be an ominous feel as if everything is about to go wrong in the lives of our hero and heroine any moment now. And everything they have won overnight is about to be snatched away from them, bringing them back to square one.

Mujji’s perpetual reassurances that he wants Deeju to be respected and even if they lose everything they are enough, is heartening. It gives tremendous relief to viewers to know that such characters are heroes in themselves, not because of the grand gestures that are meant to impress but simple, genuine emotion and consideration for each other and the life commitment they have entered into.

Another shining light in the dark DWGM tunnel of hope is Deeju’s father – steadfast, supportive, strong, and throwing us major fatherly goals. From standing by her side, supporting his daughter’s demand for privacy (and an attached bathroom), to chiding Deeju’s mother for making her return home absolutely unbearable for her, and now purchasing household amenities for Deeju, this father is perhaps the epitome of perfection in a world where none exists, but we’re not complaining, because he speaks what we’ve always wanted drama dads to say throughout our lives as Pakistani drama viewers.

Yet amidst all this positivity, we witness the disappointing side of families; blood relatives who sometimes challenge our familial ties. Tamkinat with her jealousy and suspicion, wanting Mujji to have no stake in their mother’s inheritance. and Dabbu and Deeju’s sister, treating their sibling with a total lack of consideration, respect and genuine care. They too, must have their journey just like all the rest and it is interesting how the narrative has brought them near-zero redemption with actions that are just so selfish, yet we hope we see a relatable change in hearts and minds, not merely a neatly tied up all too dreamy happily ever after, just like Mujji and Deeju’s new apartment.

But for all the sceptics among us, who are so used to being treated with incredulously dreamy happy endings, we say, hold on, the story is still in telling mode: Everything that DWGM has thrown us so far should make us feel reassured that we won’t be disappointed after all!

After all, it all started with an attached bathroom, and look where we are today!

Keep watching and tell us if you want Deeju and Mujji’s paradise to last forever?
