Throwback Thursday Picks: 3 Classic Pakistani Dramas You’ll Love To Rewatch!

Some stories fade as quickly as they arrive, but others carve out a place in us that time can’t erase. Long after the hype has quieted, we find ourselves returning to them – not just for the plot, but for the way they made us feel. They reminded us of first loves, of messy families, of laughter that carried us through, of heartbreak that felt a little too real. Rewatching these dramas isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s like sitting down with an old friend who knows you better than you know yourself. So while the world waits for the next “must-see” series, maybe it’s worth pressing play on the ones that first stole our hearts. Here are three timeless dramas that deserve a second look – and will probably move you just as much the second (or third) time around.

1. Aashti – A Story You Might Not Have Seen Before

Aashti is one of those dramas that might not have had the noise of a blockbuster, but it carries a story that tucks at the heart in unexpected ways. It offers a rare glimpse into the lives of Bengalis living in Pakistan, a community often overlooked and marginalized. At its center is Aashti (Resham), a Bengali maid engaged to Nazr-ul-Islam (Faysal Quraishi), who silently falls for Abrash (Humayun Saeed), the privileged son of the household she works in – a love complicated by class, identity, and the invisible walls society builds.

When Abrash marries Zarnish (Angeline Malik) and the story takes them all the way to London, the drama doesn’t shy away from exploring how privilege, prejudice, and unspoken truths fracture lives. With its controversial portrayal of love across social and ethnic divides, Aashti forces us to ask: can love really survive in a world weighed down by history, class, and bias?

If you’re drawn to stories that break away from the usual love triangles and family feuds, then Aashti is definitely one to add to your list.

Written by Seema Ghazal and directed by Adnan Wai Qureshi, Aashti was produced by Mehroz Karim and starred Resham, Angeline Malik, Humayun Saeed, Faisal Qureshi, Madiha Iftikhar, Sajid Hasan, and Fahad Mustafa.

2. Nanhi – The Heartbreaking Tale Of A Girl Who Never Had A Childhood

Nanhi tells the unsettling and powerful story of a young girl raised by Shammo Tai (Asma Abbas) – a midwife who’s involved in child trafficking and kidnaps newborns and entrusts them to Nanhi (Sajal Aly) to care for. Nanhi grows up tending to these stolen babies, longing for the love and belonging she’s never truly known. Surrounded by stolen children and denied love herself, she longs for the one thing every child deserves – a family of her own. But her innocence is slowly overshadowed by the cruel realities of exploitation, loneliness, and a society that turns a blind eye to such crimes.

As Nanhi grows older, her yearning for love twists into desperation, pushing her toward heartbreaking choices. The drama doesn’t just tell her personal story – it shines a light on issues like child trafficking, exploitation, and the lack of education for young girls in Pakistan. Through Nanhi’s pain, viewers are forced to confront the price of neglecting society’s most vulnerable.

This drama isn’t easy to watch, but it lingers long after the screen goes dark.

Written by Mona Haseeb and directed by Haseeb Hassan. It is produced b Iqbal Ansari. Nanhi stars Sajal Aly, Asma Abbas, Shahood Alvi, and Javed Sheikh.

3. Firaaq – When Distances Aren’t Just Measured In Miles

Firaaq is the story of a fractured Pakistani-American family living in Florida, where silence, control, and unresolved grief shape every relationship. Paimaan (Sanam Saeed) grows up under the shadow of a strict mother who tries to shield her from “Western influence,” leaving her isolated and suffocated. Her only solace is her stepfather, who encourages her to break free, but even that small kindness becomes another reason for her mother’s anger. Her journey collides with that of Imroze (Mohib Mirza), a man who loves her deeply but must face the consequences of her divided loyalties.

More than just a tale of romance, Firaaq delves into themes of immigration, cultural clashes, and the loneliness that comes from living far from home. It paints a vivid picture of how emotional distances can sometimes be even greater than physical ones, leaving viewers to wonder: what does it really mean to belong?

If you’ve ever wondered how distance can break – and remake – relationships, Firaaq is worth watching.

Firaaq is written by Mustafa Afridi, directed by Aabis Raza, and produced by Momina Duraid. The drama stars Sanam Saeed, Mohib Mirza, Cybil Chaudhry, Noor Hassan Rizvi, Uzma Gillani, and Ismat Zaidi in pivotal roles.

So, which one are you going to watch?
