Caitlin Doornbos is staying in Pakistan for a few days and is asking what to do and try in her free time – here’s what Pakistanis recommend!

When Caitlin Doornbos, a foreign policy and national security reporter for the New York Post, arrived in Pakistan, it was primarily for work. She was in the region to cover ongoing diplomatic developments, including sensitive discussions tied to U.S.–Iran relations – a topic that has kept global attention focused on the region.
But beyond the high-stakes reporting, something else caught her attention: Pakistan itself.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Doornbos shared her experience of the country’s hospitality, writing that “the hospitality of Pakistan is so warm, more welcoming than I believe I’ve ever experienced.” The remark quickly resonated with many Pakistanis online, who responded with appreciation and pride.
Now, with her stay extended for a few more days and her reporting largely centered around Islamabad, she turned to locals for advice on how to spend her limited free time.
“Pakistani friends,” she posted, “Now that I’m staying in Pakistan for a few more days, any suggestions on what I should do and see in my off time? I’d love to take in some cultural experiences, but am still working so need to stay close to Islamabad.”
The response was instant and overwhelming.
Here’s what Pakistanis have been recommending her so far:
From cultural landmarks and scenic viewpoints to food spots and local experiences, Pakistanis flooded her replies with suggestions – all tailored to places within or near Islamabad, keeping in mind her busy work schedule.
And the list goes on – so what would you recommend a foreign visitor absolutely must do in Pakistan?
If someone only had a few days around Islamabad, what’s that one must-visit place, must-do activity, or must-try food you think they shouldn’t miss?
So let’s hear it. Drop your recommendations in the comments below.
