If you’re wondering what to add to your ‘next on the list’ of Pakistani dramas, here’s a run down of the latest drama on the block – Zanjeerain. Catch up on the story so far and find out if this is the one for you!

Zanjeerain is a story about a family steeped in tradition. The first three episodes give a glimpse into the world of a family with three brothers – Sher Dil, Sohrab and Torsum, the step son. Sher Dil played by Ahsan Khan is the eldest brother and patriarch of the family as their father is no more. His mother Bee Jan raised her step son Torsum played by Usman Javed, along with her own children. But she never really gave him the same love and attention she showered on her her other sons, something she regrets now as Torsum sees himself as the blacksheep of the family.
As the older two brothers tend to the property and village matters, the younger Sar Buland, plans to go abroad for further studies. He is also engaged to be married to his cousin Sher Bano, played by Sahar Hashmi. Both them have grown up together and are deeply in love. Sar Buland is the more progressive of the lot and has just convinced his family to allow Sher Bano to also pursue her Masters, possibly at a university in the city. This is a huge step for the family who have never really allowed a girl in teh family to study so far and away from home.
On the other hand, we have Zafran Khan played by Adnan Siddiqui who is the dark villain of the story. He causes trouble often and there is great rivalry between the two clans. Torsum might be more inclined towards Zafran Khan, as he feels alienated from his brothers. He demands right to property that is not his to claim (his father having allotted him his share of the family property before passing away). This conflict might lead to something bigger very soon.
But that’s not all. Because we have a budding romance on the way with Mudassir and Rabiya. Mudassir played by Ameer Gilani, often visits the area as a friend of Sar Buland’s. He has fallen for Rabiya of Biya’s cafe – a young girl who runs her own dhaba sourced by organic produce she grows in her own backyard. Rabiya is essayed by none other than Sajal Aly and it is this romance whose culmination we see in the very first moments of the first episode… no more spoilers, because the story rewinds to an earlier time in history and one can only guess what happens after these two planned a happily ever after.
Lots more happening in Zanjeerain as Torsum also has his eyes on Biya. What happens next is what audiences are curious to know. Drop us a comment if you feel this one is for you.
