If there is one story which never fails to leave a long-lasting impression on anyone’s mind, it has to be that of people at our borders who walk fearlessly into chaos to ensure us a peaceful sleep in our homes. Often their sacrifices end up being just a headline in a newspaper or a tribute paid by the armed forces, yet every once in a while, television pays homage to one of these amazing souls. This time, GEO Entertainment is doing exactly that with its upcoming mega-production, Captain Isfandyar Shaheed.

Produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment. The drama is written by Abid Hassan Abbasi and directed by the talented Haseeb Hassan. The teaser introduces Ali Ammar in the titular role of Captain Isfandyar Shaheed. The ensemble cast includes Hina Afridi, Nauman Masood, Salma Hasan, Tauseeq Haider, Hina Bayat, Saad Azhar, Umer Darr, Nayyer Ejaz, Hassan Niazi.
From the very first few scenes, the teaser catches the eye.
The quality of production shines through in the trailer right away. The visuals are all very cinematic and crystal clear. There isn’t anything lacking in terms of action and the cinematography. It’s evident that a great deal of effort has been put in by the team for recreating the universe of the armed forces in Pakistan. When it comes to grand productions, 7th Sky Entertainment knows how to make the cut and that is what the trailer is doing.
But more importantly, there is a story worth telling here.
The Real-Life Hero Behind Captain Isfandyar Shaheed
Before being recognized for his bravery and patriotism, Captain Isfandyar Ahmad Bukhari was a young man from Attock who had ambitions, self-discipline, and dedication to serve his nation.
His journey toward becoming an army officer began when he joined the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul in November 2006 as part of the 118 Long Course. His achievements at PMA reflected his dedication and commitment. In 2008, he received the Military Tactics Medal, and on 25 October 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour, given to the best gentleman cadet of his course.
Captain Isfandyar Bukhari joined 11 Frontier Force Regiment after completing his studies at PMA. In his career as an army officer, on 18 September 2015, PAF Camp Badaber in Peshawar was attacked by terrorists. During the operation conducted against the attack, Captain Isfandyar Bukhari fought from the forefront with his soldiers against the terrorists and sacrificed his life for his country. He was just 27 years old. His bravery in the operation made him a national hero, and he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Jurat by the Government of Pakistan.
A Teaser That Feels Bigger Than the TV Screen
A military drama usually makes one expect battle scenes, explosions, and action sequences. Nonetheless, the teaser seems to indicate that Captain Isfandyar Shaheed plans to delve into much deeper waters.
In addition to action and combat operations, there are also glimpses of military training, strategic planning, and the Pakistan Military Academy. The teaser hints that the drama is focused on the creation of a soldier – the training, preparations, decision-making, and leadership abilities needed to become an army officer. After all, behind every operation is not just a soldier and his weapon; behind every operation is years of training and sacrifice.
The depiction of Captain Isfandyar by Ali Ammar is yet another factor to look out for. Judging from the brief insights into through the teaser, he seems to have the gravity and assurance needed for such an iconic role.
The drama promises a strong storyline, but will it live up to expectations? Guess we’ll have to keep our eyes out for the release date to find that out.
