Aap Ki Izzat: A new story, or a script we’ve seen many times before?

Aao Ki Izzat, Pakistani Drama,
Aap Ki Izzat Starring Ahsan Khan, Urwa Hocane and Saif Ali Khan

On the surface, the first two episodes might seem like the typical story of a man cheating on his wife and remarrying. But if you look deeper, the drama is actually talking about how a woman is gradually reduced to nothing, becoming invisible in her husband’s eyes — a theme hundreds of women across the region will connect with. It shows how in a marriage, both parties have to evolve together; this isn’t just about a husband being influenced by someone’s beauty.

And lastly, what we think will be the direction of the drama: what if the wife refuses to accept the fate decided by her husband and chooses to rebel against his denial of her? How will society react?

The Story

Ahsan Khan as Tabish and Urwa Hocane as Beena play a couple married for 14 years, standing at a point where the husband is ready to enter politics and live his life to the fullest — and marry a woman younger and more dynamic than him.

Beena, who has given her entire life to her family, is now confused and doesn’t know what’s happening — how Tabish has changed so much, and how she has become invisible in his life.

It’s such a treat to watch Ahsan Khan and Urwa Hocane in this drama — so refreshing, impressive, and heartwarming performances.

Their on-screen chemistry is very nice, and their bond seems effortless.

The first two episodes establish how Tabish has changed — how he is arrogant and dismissive of his wife, making sure to bring her down at any chance he gets. All her efforts and hard work are reduced to zero, making her feel insignificant and inferior all the time. Beena is trying her best to fulfill her duties, to be the loving, caring wife, daughter-in-law, and mother as much as she can be.

Will Aap Ki Izzat Address The Significance of a Wife in Her Husband’s Life

Conversations like “What do these women do at home all day?”, undermining a wife’s authority in front of the kids, treating her in ways that are clearly disrespectful, implying that the basic things a husband or in-laws should do are somehow favors she should be indebted to him for life — these will all resonate with many women, making them feel as though it is themselves whom they are watching in Beena’s character.

Tabish overrules Beena’s authority and lets his daughter go without a chaperone, saying that Beena has no idea how things have changed and how children have a different life now. It’s not just Tabish — his mother also makes sure to bring Beena down all the time, making her feel silly and incapable, overruling her efforts in just two sentences.

The drama makes you think that in the end, it’s blood relations that matter. The mother mattered to Tabish, but not the wife — in his success, not a single credit was given to Beena. The drama might also be questioning: why don’t women change themselves with the changing times? Why have they accepted that the world will always stay the way it is?

A Quiet Case For Second Marriages & A Wife’s Permission for the Same

We couldn’t understand why Tabish and Gohar went to see the Moulvi Sahib. Did they want a fatwa stating he doesn’t need his wife’s permission for a second marriage? We were lost.

Though the scene did try to address that there should be a valid reason for marrying again — like the Moulvi Sahib saying, “Maybe your wife is giving you a hard time, or maybe she is no longer physically fit.”

We’re still waiting to see if the drama will explain further.

Aap Ki Izzat also highlights how wives can see the signs in front of them but choose to ignore them — how Tabish never puts his phone away, how he doesn’t pay attention to her, and how he refuses to respect her.

These are all signs women must pay attention to so they don’t realize it too late.

The fruitseller angle – more than what meets the eye

The story has already hinted at how a woman was once accused of running away with a younger lover, and everyone gossiped about her. This will likely tie directly into Beena’s future decisions, as per the OST.

Saif Ali Khan did a great job as the fruit seller — a very natural performance. The way he attends to every client but gives special attention to Beena shows he values her.

But in the montage, we don’t see any ill intentions from him — he simply respects her as a customer who seems to carry a generous, caring attitude.
