Bas Tera Saath Ho- In Cinderella, it was the Fairy Godmother who gave Cinderella a makeover for the prince’s ball at the palace. Here, Ansa is the Fairy Godmother and Anas is Cinderella — given a makeover by Ansa for Shehreen’s engagement ceremony. Although Ansa pulling out the shawl and shoes from the box out of nowhere was a little too convenient, the role reversal was refreshing!
However, Anas also presents a danger if not handled carefully. He repeatedly fails to take a stand for Ansa. He is not even telling her the truth about Shayan because of his promise to Dada. In a way, Anas represents millions of men who fail to protect their wives or support them out of respect for their mothers, elders, or family.
And Ansa having to ask him again and again to stand up for her represents millions of those women who have to constantly ask their husbands to protect them.
So if the drama does not break this pattern of Anas failing to take a stand and Ansa having to push him to do it, the original message of women becoming stronger and leading a man can be highly compromised.
In last night’s episode, the same thing happened — it was only when Ansa refused to leave the event that Anas finally stood up with her. We needed Anas to stand up for Ansa last night on his own, as the drama had already shown several incidents earlier.
Oh, and did you guys notice how Shehreen was visibly taken aback by Anas’s new look? What is happening here?
Also, Shehreen’s mother makes us believe that money can blind you to all the visible red flags. She says to Mursaleen, “my heart is at peace” — but how can it be when you can clearly see that Faham has issues?
