An 18-month-old girl died after allegedly being assaulted by her 17-year-old relative in Karachi’s Qayyumabad area, prompting widespread outrage and a police investigation.

Authorities have arrested the teenage suspect, while medical and forensic examinations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the child’s death. The case has sparked renewed concerns over child safety and violence against minors in Pakistan.
The Incident
As per the statements from the police, the little girl is claimed to have been assaulted at her own house in Qayyumabad. The child was brought to the hospital in a very serious condition and unfortunately died even before getting any treatment. The initial facts indicate that the child was severely hurt and she had most probably been sexually and physically attacked. However, officials have stated that the final conclusions will depend on the medico-legal examination and forensic reports.
Suspect Arrested
A 17-year-old male cousin of the dead child has been apprehended by police for involvement in this matter. The individual was apprehended shortly after the incident, and he is currently being interrogated about the accusations levied against him.
The authorities have stated that the arrest was carried out due to preliminary evidence collected in the early stages of the investigation. Further evidence, which includes forensic evidence, will determine the precise charges to be laid and subsequent court action.
Father’s Allegations in the FIR
The victim’s father has lodged a First Information Report (FIR), accusing the teenage relative of physically assaulting and sexually abusing his daughter, resulting in her death.
In the complaint, the grieving father has asked for justice and legal action against not only the accused but also any accomplice who helped in covering up the crime.
Medical Examination Underway
Investigators say initial observations point towards sexual assault, but they have emphasised that the medical examination report will provide the final confirmation.
The child’s body has been examined medico-legally, and lab reports and other forensic reports are awaited in order to confirm the cause of death and ascertain the nature of the injuries, if any. The police have also said that these reports will play an important role in prosecuting the case.
A murder case has been registered by the police, and a thorough investigation of the case has begun. The investigators are gathering forensic evidence, taking statements from witnesses, and investigating the case to ascertain the sequence of events leading up to the crime.
There is also the possibility of making more legal provisions in the light of forensic evidence and other information gathered through the investigation.
This is a developing story.
