Tamasha Season 5 has reached a point where the actual episode barely feels like a surprise anymore, with spoilers from the 24/7 live stream making their way online days before the episode airs.
With ARY Digital now making the Tamasha Ghar available through a 24/7 uncut feed, viewers are seeing arguments, alliances, reactions and eliminations days before they make it to television. ARY itself has been repeatedly promoting the 24/7 uncut stream on ARY Plus, alongside the regular episodes.
The problem is not that viewers have access to more content. The problem is that the suspense of a reality show depends heavily on what we don’t know. When major developments are already circulating online three or four days before the episode airs, the television episode loses some of its impact. Ramsha’s elimination, for instance, was already known before the September 12 episode, meaning the audience was not really waiting to discover what would happen.
And perhaps that is why the show currently feels a little different. There is still plenty happening inside the house, but the excitement of discovering it along with the contestants has been diluted.
Babrik Is Slowly Becoming The One Everyone Wants Out
Babrik Shah has managed to play a relatively safe game for much of the season. He has been involved in the politics, performed strongly in tasks and, at different points, managed to maintain relationships across the house. But now the contestants seem to be making the same mistake we have seen before: they are beginning to unite around the idea of stopping one person from winning.
Instead of simply playing their own games, several contestants appear increasingly focused on making sure Babrik does not get ahead or save himself. The irony is that this could end up working in his favour.
We have already seen how singling someone out can turn them into an underdog. Once a contestant feels cornered, viewers naturally begin looking at the situation differently. Suddenly, the person who seemed too comfortable becomes the person everyone wants to protect. Even discussions among viewers are already framing Babrik as someone being cornered, with some viewers predicting that this could actually strengthen his position.
The contestants may think they are weakening Babrik, but they need to remember that Tamasha is ultimately decided outside the house. If everyone starts playing against Babrik instead of playing their own game, they may accidentally give him exactly the storyline he needs.
Rabiya, Dr Zee And A Friendship That Left Questions
The situation involving Rabiya was another moment that left me genuinely confused. I could understand that Rabiya was hurt and furious, but what was difficult to understand was how everything escalated to that point.
What disappointed me even more, however, was Dr Zee.
Whatever the disagreement was, Rabiya was clearly broken down in that moment. If you consider someone your friend, how do you leave them alone when they are at their lowest? How do you sit with the very people you have openly opposed, laugh and carry on, while your friend is left dealing with everything by herself?
This is where Laila Jee earned a lot of respect from me. She did not let Rabiya handle her weakest moment alone. Whatever one thinks about Laila’s personality or her approach to the game, that particular gesture said something about friendship that the others seemed to forget.
The show has spent a lot of time showing us alliances, strategies and people choosing sides. But sometimes the smallest moments tell us much more about the contestants than the biggest fights do.
So, Is The 24/7 Feed Actually Hurting Tamasha?
I don’t think the 24/7 feed is necessarily bad. In fact, for people who genuinely enjoy reality television, watching the contestants outside the edited episode can be fascinating. It gives viewers a fuller picture of relationships and exposes moments that may never make the final cut.
But Tamasha may have created a problem for itself by giving viewers too much information too early.
A reality show needs its audience to wonder. Who is going home? Who betrayed whom? Who is secretly aligned with whom? What happened after the argument? Who will save themselves?
When social media is already discussing those answers days before the episode airs, the television version inevitably loses some of its magic.
At this point, I already know who is going to be saved, who is going to be nominated in the next task, and even what the next task is. So honestly, I am not even excited to watch the show anymore.
So far, Hamza, Zayb, Fasih, Samiya and Shahrish are safe. Let’s see who gets eliminated this week because this one is definitely going to be a tough one.
