3 Upcoming Pakistani Dramas We Can’t Wait To Watch

Pakistani dramas have evolved considerably over the years. From the stories we have been brought up watching on our TV screens to the ones we watch right now with great interest, our industry has changed a lot in terms of storytelling, character development, even the subjects that make it to our screens.

We are seeing more variety in genres, fresh pairings, different settings, and stories that go beyond the usual family conflicts and relationship troubles. While there is still room for improvement, particularly when it comes to repetitive storylines and character development, it is good to see writers and producers experimenting with new ideas and giving audiences something different to talk about.

And honestly, one of the best parts of being a Pakistani drama fan is discovering a new story before it even begins. A first look, an interesting cast, a promising script, or simply an unusual pairing can be enough to get us curious. Of course, a good trailer does not always guarantee a good drama, and we have all had our expectations fall flat at some point! Still, there are some upcoming projects that have caught our attention, and we are curious to see what they bring to the table. Here are three upcoming Pakistani dramas we have our eyes on.

Cafe Firaaq

Café Firaaq has already had us curious about its casting. Initially, there were reports that Sajal Aly and Ahmed Ali Akbar might be coming together for the drama, which would have been an interesting pairing to see again. However, the news took a different turn when Ahad Raza Mir and Yumna Zaidi emerged as the likely leads. Written by Hashim Nadeem, the writer behind Parizaad and Ishq Zahe Naseeb, the drama is still keeping most of its story under wraps. Hashim has shared AI-generated character sketches and revealed a few details about the project, including the presence of rains and trains, elements that have featured in his storytelling before. He has also called Café Firaaq a risky experiment. While we do not know much about the plot yet, the hints about love, cultural exchanges and people finding their place in unfamiliar surroundings have certainly made us curious. Now, with Ahad and Yumna reportedly set to share the screen, we are waiting to see what Hashim Nadeem has been working on this time.

Apsara

There have already been several speculations regarding the drama Apsara since both Iqra Aziz and Azaan Sami Khan got first mentioned in the news. And now that filming has started, the latest Instagram post by Yasir Nawaz featuring Ali Raza and Iqra Aziz has given us with something fresh to talk about. Written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and directed by Yasir Nawaz, the HUM TV drama is still keeping its storyline under wraps. But what does the title Apsara tell us? The word is associated with celestial, beautiful female beings in South Asian mythology, often linked with charm, dance and allure. Could the story revolve around a woman whose beauty makes her the centre of attention, or might there be more to her character than meets the eye? These are only guesses at this point, but we are curious to see how Zanjabeel builds the story around the title. With the ensemble cast and plot details yet to be fully revealed, Apsara has plenty left to surprise us with.

Lahu

Lahu is one upcoming Pakistani drama that has plenty of reasons to pique our interest, starting with the reunion of Sajal Aly and Bilal Abbas Khan. The two actors have shared the screen in O Rangreza, Kuch Ankahi and the film Khel Khel Mein, and now they are reportedly coming together for another project on Geo Entertainment. Written by Saqlain Abbas and directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain, the drama is said to revolve around succession politics, with revenge, betrayal and family power struggles expected to play an important role. The title itself, which means blood, hints at a story where family ties may not necessarily mean loyalty, and the stakes could be much higher than they first appear. Ali Zafar has also reportedly joined the cast in an antagonist’s role, marking his return to television drama after years away.

One thing that makes a new Pakistani drama interesting is that there is always room for a project to surprise us. An actor we have watched in one kind of role might take us in a completely different direction, a writer might explore a subject we have not seen them tackle before, or a director might bring a story to life in a way we did not expect. That is what makes these early announcements worth paying attention to. We do not always need to know every detail of a plot to be curious about a drama; sometimes, the people involved and the possibilities their collaboration opens up are enough. At the same time, we have learnt not to judge a drama by its cast alone. What matters is what the makers do with the story, how much care goes into the characters, and whether the writing gives the actors something meaningful to work with.

Pakistani television has the talent and the creative voices to give us those experiences, and we hope these upcoming projects make the most of that potential. For now, we can only wait for the first glimpses of what their makers have planned. Which one are you most excited for? Comment down and let us know!
