Faris Shafi – a Lahore-based singer deemed too “inappropriate” and his songs labeled too “profane” is making rounds on social media nowadays for his latest Coke Studio release “Muaziz Saarif” featuring his sister Meesha Shafi.
His songs can be termed a social commentary on the times and are often criticized for having explicit language in them while in reality, he addresses about the evils of society, including corruption, terrorism, poverty (& the list goes on), uncensored and unfiltered, that many find offensive (or don’t bother acknowledging).

1. His First Song Was A Collab With Mooroo
Faris Shafi released his first song “Awaam” in 2012 with Mooroo and it was a hit! The song revolved around critical problems Pakistan is plagued with, including load-shedding. He is also known for making out-of-the-box music videos. His first one was directed by Mooroo and himself.
Speaking of collabs, he also did one with the one & only Ali Sethi! Their song Waasta has more than 2 million views on Youtube and is still one of the most cherished songs of Faris Shafi.
2. Acting Debut
Faris Shafi has also tried his hand at acting. He made his acting debut in 2012 with the drama serial “Mere Huzoor,” which also starred Mawra Hocane, Nadia Afghan, and Shahood Alvi. Apart from Mere Huzoor, he has worked in dramas like Qarz, Sun Yaara & Ghalati, etc.
3. His Step Brother
Ace actor Ali Abbas and Faris Shafi are step-siblings. The latter’s mother, also a famed actress, Saba Hameed married veteran actor Waseem Abbas after her first husband Pervaiz Shafi passed away.
4. Starring In Maula Jatt?
Faris Shafi is all set to enter the world of Pakistani cinema with the industry’s highly-anticipated film, The Legend Of Maula Jatt. The movie also features Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, and Hamza Ali Abbasi. Although no official announcement has been made regarding the release date, we are super excited to see what Faris Shafi’s role has to offer!
5. Has An Advertising Degree
According to reports, after graduating from college in Lahore, he went to Turkey to pursue a degree in Advertising. However, it seems his heart lies in art, which reflects in the music he makes.
