What Do Our Celebrities Think?
Pakistani and Bollywood celebrities have also joined in on the debate, some picked sides while others gave their two cents on the incident.
Adnan Malik
Starting off with what many are saying guided Will Smith’s action is the fact that he’s had a traumatic childhood. Actor Adnan Malik took to his Instagram stories to highlight the importance of therapy and how unhealed trauma guides our triggers. In a series of Instagram stories, one of them included a video that uncovers the reasons behind Will Smith’s aggression.
The actor wrote, “This isn’t at all to justify his actions but does bring to light how childhood events can affect our adult relationships and how our triggers come from unhealed trauma spaces. We often project unhealed trauma into our current situations.”
“This also explains the emotional instability we saw yesterday. It was all very alive inside of him,” he added.

Ahmed Ali Butt
Ahmed Ali Butt, on the other hand, openly expressed his disappointment towards the Oscar-winning actor. He also appreciated Chris Rock for handling the situation with professionalism.

Salman Khan
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, having hosted popular live shows like Big Boss and Dus Ka Dam, is of the opinion that hosts should be sensitive and mindful of what they are saying. “Below the belt” humor is never acceptable, according to him.
Kangana Ranaut
Actress Kangana Ranaut, who never shies away from speaking her mind, on the other hand, believes Will Smith is in the right for doing what he did because she would have done the same if someone had insulted her family.

Mohsin Abbas Haider
Mohsin Abbas Haider praised Will Smith for standing up for his family. Sharing Will Smith’s picture on his Instagram story, the Na Maloom Afraad actor wrote, “Don’t Mess With The King Or His Family.”

Sonam Kapoor
While on the other hand, Sonam Kapoor believes the situation could’ve been handled verbally, instead, The King Richard actor displayed “toxic masculinity.” He should’ve corrected Chris Rock in private, she added.
Repercussions
Although Will Smith posted an apology on his Instagram handle, saying “he was out of line,” people were questioning why the Academy did not take action against Will Smith for being physically violent. The Academy, on Wednesday, clarified that it did ask the Oscar-winning actor to leave but he refused.
“While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently,” states the film Academy.
Chris Rock’s Response
The comedian has not put forward an official statement as of yet. However, he did speak about the incident publicly for the first time at a stand-up comedy show on Wednesday. According to Rock, he is still “processing” the situation. Besides Will Smith, the Academy also apologized to Rock in its statement and appreciated him. for his “resilience in that moment.”
How Far Is Too Far?
What have we learned from this incident? It has indeed sparked a conversation on how far is too far when it comes to comedy. Are we as a nation becoming too intolerant and insensitive or are we finally calling a spade a spade? Many believe all’s fair in humor but shouldn’t there be some boundaries? You tell us, which side are you on?
