Our weekly dose of endearing, heart-winning and ‘filmi with a Pakistani drama touch’ story is back. Do you, like us, also feel sympathetic towards Basit? Should we be sympathetic, when he is marrying a girl for selfish reasons?
Element Of Surprise!
It was an unexpected twist as Basit’s mom turns up at Ayesha’s house. Basit manages to get Ayesha to go along with his plan in return for his ahsaan. It was an interesting turn, as we had been wondering what would make Ayesha start thinking along these lines.
One of the reasons Ayesha was reluctant to say yes to Basit was her guilt because of Bano. While Bano couldn’t get married to the love of her life and doesn’t even have a job now, Ayesha lands a good looking guy with financial stability who, apparently wants to marry her. It was heartening to see the sisters supporting each other – Bano in giving Ayesha the strength to agree to the proposal, and Ayesha, in being considerate enough to think of Bano first – sister goals that Pakistani dramas would do well to adopt in future. Add to that, a prospective mother in law who doesn’t appear to be looking down on a bahu who hails from a different socio-economic background and you give us hope right there – well done Habs!
Shout Out To The Team
Credit must be given to the writer and director for making us feel sympathetic towards Basit despite his selfishness. Basit’s sincere intentions towards the bond of marriage at the time of his engagement with Soha were shown where, despite his reluctance to marry, he declares that the girl will be his responsibility and he will take care of her. So we are rest assured that there will be no ill intentions from his side.
We are happy to see Ushna Shah playing Ayesha, a girl who is not just carried away by the wealth and good looks of Basit, but is logically contemplating why a guy like Basit wants to marry her when he can have ek sey ek achi larki available to him. We appreciate the portrayal of a strong and clear headed girl having self-respect.
On To The Mothers
But we wonder how Ayesha will react when she discovers that Basit is buying the house for her mother in return for her agreement to marry her daughter with him?
Can Basit’s mother’s persistence finally win him over?
Circumstances in life and her mother’s selfishness has made Zoya realistic and somewhat emotion-less. Nonetheless it showed how she refuses to let her mother blackmail her with any of her usual tactics as she informs her sisters that it was oil and not petrol that their mother employed to threaten them with.
We absolutely loved the final scenes depicting the sisterly interaction.
