Pakistan’s very own animated series Team Muhafiz comes to an end. It features a group of teenagers determined to fight the evils in our society. The series aims to bring the issues plaguing our society to Pakistani youth’s attention and invoke a sense of harmony and peace in them. Team Muhafiz is a collaborative project between ISPR and Geo Entertainment. Scroll down to read all about it!
Team Muhafiz features a group of 6 characters: Parinaaz, Reza, Badshah Khan, Aarya, Mahnur, and Zane. Although they come from diverse ethnic backgrounds, they have a sole purpose; to safeguard our society and fight crime. Interestingly, the likes of Sajal Aly, Dananeer Mobeen, Ahsan Khan, and Wahaj Ali have contributed as voiceover artists for Team Muhafiz.
It is an animated series adapted from a 2015 comic book series launched in Pakistan. Season one was aired in 2 parts, with each part spread over 5 episodes. The first story arc includes a threat to a national sporting event and tackles themes including timber mafia and drug abuse. Whereas the second arc, wherein there’s a danger of a mega project’s launch being sabotaged, covers topics that resonate with the youth and young adults like human trafficking, child labor, and street crime.
A Look Into Episodes 1 & 2
The first episode introduces 4 out of the 6 characters and kept us hooked throughout! A few things that stood out for us were the excellent animation and well-thought-out characters and story. The 11-minute episode centers around Parinaaz who is the team leader, ex-cricketer Zane, the martial artist Reza, and the youngest member of the group Mahnur. The team comes across some men trying to forcefully extract money from shopkeepers. They quickly step in to fight the goons and eventually get them arrested! But…their leader escapes.
Episode 2 marks the entry of techno genius Badshah Khan, and yoga enthusiast Aarya from Sindh. Team Muhafiz takes down the drug mafia and saves the youth from an otherwise inevitable downfall. What sets Team Muhafiz apart from previous Pakistani animated series targeting social issues is the fact that it is more inclusive. It has characters from various ethnic backgrounds within Pakistan as well as a Chinese character named Yu Hai Tao. It is encouraging to see hard-hitting Pakistani content that not only carries a positive message to give out but also has the ability to speak to the youth and perhaps inspire them to do good.
Team Muhafiz is a collaboration between ISPR and Geo Entertainment. Its OST ‘Dil Fatah Karain’ was recently released featuring the vocals of Soch The Band, Karakoram, and Young Stunners and the composition of Soch The Band and Sherry Khattak. Team Muhafiz has been scripted by Fakhir Rizvi and Kamran Khan is the Animation Director.
