Another Dramatic Week Gone By. And this time, the drama was in the endings as we bid farewell to two stories that had us in their grip. One refused to let go, and the other held us in a gentle embrace, signing off with a charming goodbye. Which was which? Aha, that’s for you to decide.

We’ll just go ahead and give you a recap of the two Mere(s) – Humsafar and Humnasheen. Both stories made an impact on viewers. Some cried for Darakhzai while others cried with Halza, some waited for Khajista to follow her heart’s desire whilst others waited for Shah Jahan to be punished. Stories grip us in different ways, while some seek romance, others seek vengeance – aha, two sides of the same coin you would argue?

The Week In Dramas - Mere Humsafar, Habs, Bakhtawar & More!

Final Words On Mere Humsafar

But onwards to why Mere Humsafar kept trending every Thursday? I think we can put it down to some amazing Hamza-Hala chemistry, a hope for love to find its way and of course, the magic of Hania Aamir and Farhan Saeed coming together onscreen. There was definitely magic in Hamza too as he struggled to rid Hala of her past demons (though he became one at times too), but the promise of a life in Australia, or the UK, a futuristic husband (in Pakistani terms) who welcomes his wife to continue her education and plan a home away from her in-law’s just untied many troubled heart strings. You see, Hala’s suffering was echoed across millions of desi households. Shah Jahan might not be a replica toxic mother-in-law, but she came close (I’m just reading off YouTube comments y’all, don’t look at me) that’s what I hear.

In which case, many Halas waited for their knight in shining armour in the form of Hamza, and boy were they happy to see the two live happily ever after!

Many amongst the audience wanted to see Shah Jahan pay for her evil designs and I admit, the temptation was strong for me too, but then, I thought to myself, I am not Hala. Hala is forgiving, Hala has her choti choti and bari khushiyan, she has love, a baby, and a family. Much as I want to wish Shah Jahan to hellish destiny, Hala is okay to forgive. And that’s why my dear viewers, we must leave SJ’s fate at that. Unless, of course, some MS fan(atics) root for a season 2 and we see SJ back in action. That would be the day!

Mere Humnasheen Deserves To Be On Your Watchlist!

And now we come to Mere Humnasheen. And I would like to appreciate a narrative, performances, and execution that came out of the blue. I for one was not expecting this one to make it so high on my watch list. Other than the star cast, I did not expect characters and stories to take hold of me, plot(s) that were thrilling, conspiratorial, and intriguing, characters that held my attention and also, a part of my heart, and they evolved with every passing episode. Ahsan Khan aka Darakhzai managed to make us grieve for him and Hadi aka Shahzad Sheikh turned out quite the performance there. Hiba you were our strong girl Khajista with loaded messages that hit home in a quiet, dignified manner. Syed Jibran aka Amroz and Momina Iqbal as Shanzae stood bright like a shining star, and Munazza Arif as More stole my heart – so well done there!

In short, Mere Humnasheen is a drama that I would happily recommend to the masses. Watch for a refreshing storyline and subtle messaging. To top it all, the cinematography is breathtaking!

And, surprise, surprise, the drama achieved viewership and love without resorting to the ever-present slap – how cool is that?

The Latest On Habs

Habs and why are we still waiting for Fahad & Bano to find each other when Ayesha and Basit are still stuck at a crossroads? As the hospital’s unspoken conversation played out, we saw a glimpse of out-of-the-box direction and that did take the cake. Other than the feels there, the dropped mobile phone and continued miscommunication put a damper on a developing storyline that somehow needs to be pushed forward. Basit come on now, you know Ayesha cares about you, and Ayesha, drop the ego and speak up! That’s about it on Habs because they haven’t given us much else to talk about. Hoping the story paces forward faster than the Pakistani innings buckling up in the latest T20 match, coz that’s what we need to wake us up in Habs!

Onwards To Bakhtawar

We are waiting for Bakhtu to reveal the deal and turn up as Bakhtawar before Dilawar but obviously, we aren’t on the same plane as her. She’s going to take her own sweet time doing this. Meanwhile, Hooriya is not taking it slow and smells something not right in this Bakhtu-Dilawar formula. Will she get her hands on the file and will she uncover the best-kept secret yet? Now if we put two and two together, we know that Dilawer does not appreciate hoodwinking and untruths (overheard convo) so he’s not going to be so happy about this reveal. And of course, love comes after a fall (or was that pride), but my point is, the plot will get more twisted before it unravels. Bakhtu will have to exit Dilawar’s life before he returns as she, or as Bakhtawar, and all that because … you guessed it, she’s not coming out with the truth herself! Oh dear Bakhtawar, we the audience know exactly what you have to do to get out of your predicament, lekin phir … story aagey kaise chale gi???

Both the Bs are keeping us engaged though. The drama hands out messages as it thrills by reminding us of the deadly acid attacks as well as politicians exploiting the less privileged through media coverage… sad yet true – Bakhtawar hits home here.

Lastly, Tinkay Ka Sahara

Tinkay Ka Sahara is the new drama on the block. Starring Sonya Hussyn, Rabab Hashim, Sami Khan & Haroon Shahid. It deserves a mention here for Sonya’s endearing onscreen presence and not because of the parallel angry young man narrative that the makers hope(?) will bring in the viewers.

To cut it short, expect slaps, guns, and loads of violence, yeah, that’s how they do it… luckily Sonya’s character gets the calm, good for (nothing) yet hopefully, loving husband aka Haroon Shahid. Point to ponder – are all men either narcissistically violent or, aimlessly directionless? These are the two polar opposites screened in the show. And can a woman’s pure love change their course forever? Aaah, but that remains to be seen… and, another point to ponder, if the women succeed, therapists would be out of a job then yeah?

However keep watching. Tinkay Ka Sahara might surprise you and me (I hope), till next time. Adios and happy watching!
