2 Important Issues Being Highlighted In Wabaal
Firstly, when children grow up, after some time, parents have no control over their actions. Despite doing your best, sometimes children are not a reflection of their parents and are completely opposite to them, like in the case of Anum.
Secondly, the prevalence and impact of loans and loan sharks in small areas outside the realm of financial institutions – this leads to violent incidents and certain individuals taking undue advantage of needy people.
It is good to see that although Anum is selfish, rude and materialistic, she’s still a grey character. The manner in which she cried and apologised to her father depicted that she is not all black. We loved how dadi spoke to her and explained things to her with great patience.
We feel her mom could have prepared her or asked her to behave a little better before Faraz’s mom.
While on the one hand, Anum was rude to Faraz’s mom, was it okay for his mother to enter Anum’s room and interrogate her in that manner? We believe that even if Anum didn’t know how to embroider or cook food, Faraz’s mother would have been okay with it, had she been kind, respectful, and attentive towards her.
Do you relate to Anum? Though she is rude and selfish, does she deserve to be married against her wishes and not allowed to have a career? Is Anum’s rebellious and disrespectful nature making us blind to the unfair treatment meted out to her?
