Malala Yousuf Zai is a name well known for many things but specifically her efforts in raising awareness for girls’ education around the globe. The masses however are divided in their opinions about her which often subjects her to criticism. Regardless of what opinion you or I keep, it is safe to say that Malala has that global recognition that is fruitful to the plight of the flood-affected people as due to her coverage, the areas which need the attention of the global community get recognized. We can agree to disagree but we should not disregard her efforts of amplifying the voices of the voiceless!

Malala YousufZai visited Dadu, one of the worst hit areas by the floods in Sindh. The visit’s primary aim was to center the attention of the global community toward the growing destruction in these areas and amplify the need for relief assistance.
She exchanged stories with the girls and women of that area. She took to her Instagram to share one of the stories highlighting the plight of girls and education in the areas affected by floods. “I want to go to school, but there is so much water. If there was less water, I’d even go through it. Now we are hearing that the flood waters will stay for five months,” she said. She wants to be a doctor but worries she may never go back to school. I hope leaders will listen to Sohaila and every girl like her.”
Malala also met with the Sindh government officials and urged them to develop emergency response plans for the loss of education in these areas including working to reinstate schools as learning centers and providing incentives for girls to return to school after the crisis.
The Malala Fund is calling upon the international community to take action in order to ensure that the impacted students get due support and resources they need to return to school. In addition to Malala Fund’s initial emergency relief grant, Malala Fund has committed up to $700,000 (PKR 154 Million) to organizations in Pakistan.
