Pakistani dramas have a way of initiating dialogue through key moments in the narrative that hold our attention onscreen. This week was no less as the season gave us 4 drama scenes that nailed the emotion or were executed in a manner that deserve special mention. Read on as we give you all 4…
Parwarish – The Scene that Had Us on Edge
When Maya spots Waleed at her university, her panic-stricken state of mind was evident in her confusion at Amal’s message – Waleed wants to meet her in the lab? Amal is equally confused, and poor Wali, the most confused. What follows is an upsetting encounter where Waleed, Wali, Amal and Maya are caught in a situation not entirely of their making. Maya’s shock, Wali’s sense of betrayal and Amal, feeling lost and yet worried about Wali, was probably the most intense moment of the double episode stint this week.
Appreciation for all players; actors, director, writer for giving us a scene that brought the plot to its rightful climax. The sound of the shattering glass in the lab marked the terrible moment as if echoing the shattered hearts of those who were part of this super painful ordeal. The background score headlined the heartbreak with Samar Jafri’s vocals belting out Guzaarishein, the lyrics saying it all.
Dayan – Packing in the Details
Nihaal’s plastic surgery could have been brushed over as a minor detail in the grander scheme of things. But the creators went a step ahead and walked the journey in the storytelling. From examining her facial images in detail to showing us part of the surgical details, Dayan creators went to great lengths to outline the reformative process, showing us pre and post surgery images to create impact and also keep us invested in the narrative.
Nihaal’s shock at first seeing her scarred face and subsequent recovery seemed more relatable and hence, added to the transformation we will witness now in her character in following episodes.
Shirin Farhad – When Love Demands More
With Shirin Farhad, it’s all about the moments, the conversations inside those moments and the poetry that teleports us into a filmy planet we’re happy to be a part of.
Shirin Farhad lays claim to the age-old belief that love demands a braveheart, courage and the desire to win over the person we love. So when Farhad tells Shirin “Jaanta hoon yeh sitara mera nahi ho sakta.” We see Shirin’s spirited response: “Tum sooraj bannay ki koshish kyun nahi karte Farhad.”
When Farhad questions: .
“Kya main tumhe kabhi paa sakoon ga?” Shirin responds: “Khwamakhwa badnaam kya, tumhain tau khud yaqeen nahi hai.”
The conversation, set against the frames of a window sill, our hero and heroine almost silhouetted against the subtle play of light and shadow streaming in from the windows, left a feeling of hope in the air. This was not a heroine to give up so easily. And a hero who just needed assuarnce from her. Shirin Farhad wraps up a romantic moment in true filmy style. The dialogues were just enough not too wordy and yet conveying the emotion these two young people held inside their hearts.
Well done creators, we felt the hope in this one.
Dastak – Communication is the Key to Healthy Relationships
When Moiz and Kiran reach a stalemate in their conversation, Kiran fearing for Shani’s well being and Moiz, for his mother’s health, Dastak showed us yet again how couples can resolve a sticky situation by talking it out, being sensitive to the other’s dilemma and working through things together. Moiz repeating that he just wanted Kiran to be with him, and Kiran lending her support, despite being fearful for Shani, is perhaps a conflict resolution between two mature adults that we need to see more often in marital relationships.
Notwithstanding what transpires next, and Shani will be subjected to Moiz’s father’s prejudiced behaviour and actions, at the moment this decision seemed the best way forward. One has to try and resolve issues before they become bigger, keeping yoru partner’s wellbeing in mind. In this case, both Moiz and Kiran’s intentions are pure, regardless of what follows later. Hopefully, these two will continue giving us couple goals as the story moves on.
