Young Pakistani drama actresses and their courageous script choices keep making us fall in love with them over and over again!

Gone are the days when heroines were just waiting to be rescued by a prince charming! Now, they’re calling the shots, steering the narrative, and breaking stereotypes we’ve been fed for years. From challenging societal norms to stepping into characters with depth and individuality, young Pakistani actresses are bringing a fresh wave of creativity to our screens. No longer confined to the typical “damsel in distress” trope, or picking just any script that comes their way, they’re confidently taking on diverse roles—unique, flawed, ambitious, and complex—that reflect real women with real stories. These actresses are redefining what it means to be a heroine in dramas, making us cheer, cry, and root for them like never before.
Let’s give the spotlight to four incredible young Pakistani actresses who chose different, meaningful storylines and gave us characters we absolutely loved!
1. Sehar Khan – Tan Man Neel O Neel, Fairytale, And Jafaa

Sehar Khan as Rabia, aka Rabi, in Tan Man Neel O Neel, Umeed in FairyTale and Deebu in Jafaa is here to break the mold and redefine what it means to be a female lead! Courageous, ambitious, and fiercely independent, where Umeed is young and ambitious, Deebu is honest yet believes in her power to make it happen, Rabi is determined to stand tall in society and carve out a space for herself—each character confidently explores the space she inhabits. Rabi in currently on air Tan Man Neel o Neel navigates modes of earning that vibe with her inner creatives like vlogging on YouTube and TikTok. Oh, and if you think photography and videography are “men’s jobs,” think again! Rabi is breaking the mold as an event photographer and videographer, proving that women can ace these roles with equal passion and skill. And wait a minute, when Kami tries to bring down her mojo, she’s got the sass, strength, and sharp comebacks to shut him down like a pro.
Rabi, Umeed and Andaleeb also show young girls how to step into the big bad world, and strive for independence. With each character, the actor’s journey shapes up, delivering characters that resonate with Gen Zers’ – Rabi sets goals by communicating with her family members and keeping them in the loop, despite the freedom she is allowed by her family, yet she speaks her mind when she feels wronged, without having a meltdown. Great goals to live by.
What makes Rabi’s story even more exciting is the unique script itself. As a Karachiite, how often have we witnessed the chaos created by mobs and strikes in real life but never really thought about their personal impact? This show dives right into that uncharted territory, bringing us a narrative that feels fresh and relatable, paired with characters that are real to life. Sehar’s choice to take on a role like Rabi is not only refreshing but incredibly inspiring. She’s proving that heroines don’t just have to survive—they can thrive and take charge of their own stories!
2. Ramsha Khan – Nadaan, Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, Hum Tum, & Jannat Sy Aagey

From Samiya in Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, Neha in Hum Tum, Tabassum in Jannat Se Aagay and then Dr. Tabeer in Nadaan, Ramsha Khan fearlessly challenged the steretypes and unmasked the grim social and political realities in our society. In Nadaan, the story takes us into a world where influential figures operate unchecked, creating chaos and destruction around them. Yet, Dr. Tabeer isn’t one to back down—she knows how to take risks for the people around her and stands up for what’s right. Her empowering message is clear: it doesn’t matter if you’re a girl; you can still take action against wrongdoing, even if you’re not the victim. She shows us that being a doctor is about much more than just treating patients; it’s about advocating for justice and health.
Samiya battles with her domestic situation with great spirit and in ways we had not seen a young Pakistani heroine do before. Tabassum mirrors the harsh realities of social media and the affect it could have on young, impressionable minds. Neha is an outgoing young girl who’s not afraid to speak her mind and considers herself no less than the opposite sex. All three characters delved deep into social challenges that the average young girl in our society encounters, yet in a manner that kept us riveted to the screen. In choosing scripts that resonate with audiences, Ramsha has forever carved a niche that hits different in each role she takes on.
Nadaan delivers a storyline that is both unique and relatable, shedding light on issues in our society that often go unnoticed or are ignored. It forces us to confront the uncomfortable truths lurking in our surroundings, urging us to pay attention to the realities we might overlook. This show encourages viewers to think critically and observe their environment like never before, making us realize the importance of standing up for one another. With Dr. Tabeer at the forefront, Nadaan is a refreshing reminder that true heroes can come in many forms, and sometimes, they wear a white coat!
3. Sabeena Farooq – Mann Jogi And Kabli Pulao

From playing Haya in Tere Bin, a character hopelessly in love with someone who doesn’t reciprocate, to the shy and quirky Maina in Suno Chanda 2, one might assume Sabeena Farooq would stick to similar roles. However, Sabeena has proven she’s not one to be boxed in or typecast. Instead of playing it safe, she veered off the beaten path, picking stories that offer depth and explore issues far beyond romance. Enter Kabli Pulao and Barbeena endeared herself to audiences for all the right reasons, her integrity, spirited nature and a quiet charm etched a character that will stay with us forever. And then along came Mann Jogi with Aaliya, an eight-episode series that became an audience favorite, not just for its storytelling but for its courage in addressing sensitive topics like talaaq and halala.
Sabeena’s choice to take on such socially significant roles deserves a standing ovation. Mann Jogi and Kabli Pulao weren’t just another drama; they tackled a subject that is rarely addressed on screen, and when it is, it’s often sensationalized. Yet, these series handled the topics with great sensitivity and nuance, making them thought-provoking and initiating conversations. Sabeena’s portrayal was heartfelt, as she gave life to stories that mattered and dared to make audiences think about the harsh realities faced by women in orthodox societies. We applaud Sabeena not just for her performance but for stepping out of her comfort zone and using her craft to highlight important societal issues.
4. Dananeer – Meem Se Mohabbat And Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri

While Roshi’s character has come under fire in the first two episodes for being a tad too over the top, and it was perhaps, Dananeer’s Roshi seems to have come into her own this past week. Her depiction of a young girl who interacts with an 8 year old child inflicted with trauma and speech challenges is super endearing. Although the script gives major Haseena Moin vibes (in a great way), the recent episodes have managed to keep it present-day with Dananeer throwing off infectious light-hearted moments, especially with child actor Abu Hurairah – Mohid in the drama.
Furthermore, her escape from Shariq and subsequent drugged appearance was well executed. Taking it further, if we throw our minds back to her Dananeer’s earlier performances, Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri also hit a note with Gen Zer’s as Zobia and Saim’s tragic love story and subsequent journey unraveled trauma and also positive ways to handle it in a society where young people often face great opposition to their choice of marriage partners.
Pakistanis have had their fill of the same old dramatic tropes and cookie-cutter heroines, and honestly, we’re over it! It’s time for fresh, meaningful stories, and these young Pakistani actresses are proving they’re up for the challenge. With their fearless choices and game-changing roles, they’re not just entertaining us—they’re bringing the change we’ve been craving. Keep it coming, ladies, because we’re here for it!
