The previous episode of 22 Qadam wasn’t just yet again a treat to watch but also a just in time lesson as cricket fans prep for the world cup!

Are you a newbie or a cricket amateur? But you are super excited to watch all the ICC world cup matches with your friends…though there’s a slight problem? You absolutely do not know any of the important cricket jargon? Well, you are in luck! 22 Qadam’s previous episode has surely given us a beginners lesson in cricket.
The 22 Qadam girls have begun competing. They set out to compete against the sore losers, oops we meant the boys team who claim their ghairat might be tainted if they play against them. We don’t know about their ghairat but the Ragra 11 team sure did get 3 extra points and won the match by default! Girls can play and no there are no rules in place to stop them. 22 Qadam isn’t just a treat to watch, it is also done so intelligently and with all heart, one can’t deny that.
Here are 5 cricket terms the Ragra Team taught us, just in time for the ICC World Cup 2023:
1. Sledging
Wahaj as Junaid warns the girls as they practice, there will be shadeed sledging for sure as they are the only girls team in the tournament but there may be no need to worry all they need to do is to not lose focus. Because the maximum they could do is call you weird names, distract you! But wait a second, what is sledging?
Sledging in cricket is when players from one team try to distract or taunt players from the opposing team with words or gestures. It’s usually done to break the concentration or confidence of the batsman or bowler and gain a psychological advantage.
2. Stroking The Bat
Stroking the bat in cricket refers to the skilful and controlled movement of the bat by the batsman to make contact with the ball during a shot. It involves using the bat with precision, timing, and finesse to hit the ball in a way that directs it where the batsman intends, often aiming for gaps in the field to score runs.
3. Match Fixing
Liza’s father once again resorts to his scheming, toxic and corrupt ways and attempts to sway Liza to give in to jealousy and animosity but thankfully Liza knows better. Or does she? He says to win, she needs to beat Fari and Junaid’s team but isn’t it her own team? She says she wont give in to these awful tactics. Oh no, but has she decided to change her mind already and will end up agreeing to match fixing?
Match fixing in cricket is a corrupt practice where individuals, such as players, officials, or outside actors, manipulate certain aspects of a cricket match to achieve a predetermined outcome. This can include actions like deliberately underperforming, ensuring a specific number of runs are scored, or fixing other elements like the timing of certain events (e.g., when wickets fall).
4. Pull Shot
Fari though tells coach Qasim, she has a problem with her pull shot. She’s in luck because he tells her he knows and Junaid actually has the best pull shot in the entire region and he would be the best person to help Fari!
We really didn’t know what a pull shot is, so if you (like us) are a cricket noob, here is what it is; A pull shot in cricket is a batting stroke played by a batsman to hit a short-pitched delivery, usually bowled at or just outside the leg stump, towards the leg side of the field. The batsman uses a horizontal or slightly upward swing of the bat to hit the ball powerfully towards the mid-wicket or square leg region. Imagine the ball is bowled a bit higher and closer to you. You swing your bat horizontally or a bit upwards to smack the ball towards the side of the field behind you.
5. A Double Wicket Tournament
The girls also mentioned a double wicket tournament, is it any different than a regular one? How?
In a double wicket tournament, each team has two players. Each pair gets two attempts to bat, and they aim to score as many runs as possible while facing a limited number of balls. The team with the highest combined score wins. They compete in a limited-over match, and when a player is out, they continue to bat but incur a penalty of stipulated runs for each dismissal.
This sure was super interesting to watch and learn. We are so appreciative of the fact how 22 Qadam along with empowering girls also serving a lesson to all, as to how Pakistani dramas can have so much matter and strength to them. It’s not only entertaining us but is also passing on knowledge, fun facts and awareness.
