Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix are gearing up for the Joker: Folie A Deux. The first look sent all the fans into a frenzy and everyone is as excited as can be. So while we gear up for the final Joker 2 countdown, here are 5 facts you should know about the upcoming 2024 release.
1. The Reason Behind Folie A Deux
This refers to a medical term that means two or more people share the same mental illness. In this case, Arthur aka Joker, and his ‘sidekick’ and love interest, Harley Quinn are victims of the same illness. Together they cause mayhem and take on the world in their way.
2. Lady Gaga Is The Second Actress To Take On Quinn
It was announced in August last year that ‘A Star Is Born‘ actress, Lady Gaga is the second actress who is playing Harley Quinn in a live-action movie. This role was previously played by Margot Robbie in the Suicide Squad movies. People loved her portrayal of this iconic character and ever since her Harley Quinn is people’s favorite Halloween character. Will we see Lady Gaga with the red and blue hair and the trademark baseball bat?
3. Who Exactly Is Harley Quinn?
Harley is a psychiatrist at the Arkham asylum, where Arthur is a patient. Intrigued by his thoughts and methods, Harley develops feelings for him and adapts to his ways. The two have an on and off abusive relationship but apparently they are each other’s ride or die and seemingly they fit well.
4. Supporting Cast
Joining the cast are Zazie Beetz, who reprises her role as Arthur’s love interest in the first film, Sophie. Other than that Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland , and Harry Lawtey are joining the cast, but their roles are not revealed as off now.
5. Tod Phillips Is Giving It His All!
The first Joker film was a blockbuster and an Academy Award winner. Joaquin Phoenix landed his first Oscar for the best actor male category too. Todd Phillips is the director and writing the screenplay for Folie A Deux alongside Scott Silver. The film being a musical is a different take.
Will it be yet another Oscar winner and up to the mark? We’ll have to wait until 4th October, 2024 to find out!
