According to reports, 6.5 million videos by Pakistanis were removed by TikTok for violating community guidelines.
The TikTok fever in Pakistan is here to stay and it’s easily one of the most used apps in the country, especially among Gen Zs. Its short-video format is what usually attracts its users. It’s easy, convenient, and doesn’t take long to make or watch. While the number of TikTok accounts keep soaring, we must ask ourselves, are we being responsible with the content we are putting out? Are we well versed with TikTok’s community guidelines?
Below are 5 reasons why your TikTok video could violate community guidelines.
1. If Your Content Contains Dangerous Acts or Challenges
TikTok doesn’t allow content that contains, promotes, and/or glorifies dangerous stunts, activities, or challenges, especially taking place in a non-professional capacity. Thus, you must refrain from filming content that could potentially be harmful to yourself or those around you because this goes against TikTok’s community guidelines and it can temporarily ban or delete your video if you refuse to adhere.
2. Glorifying Self Harm & Suicide
If you are, in any way, glorifying suicide or suicidal tendencies, TikTok will remove your content. The app does not allow videos that are normalizing self-harm or suicide and/or providing instructions on how to partake in self-harm or suicide.
“We prohibit any form of content that promotes, normalizes, or glorifies suicide, provides instructions for suicide, or posts that portray a suicide as heroic or honorable,” read the app’s community guidelines.
3. Depicts Abusive Behaviour, Sexual Harassment & Bullying
TikTok prohibits abusive language aimed to mock or humiliate an individual’s or individuals’ “intellect, appearance, personality traits, or hygiene.” Additionally, content involving unwanted sexual behavior either through contact, verbally, or in texts using emojis etc is intolerable.
4. Promotes Violent Extremism
Your content should not incite or promote violence of any sort, which includes having the intention to hurt someone, threatening someone, advocating violence and/or encouraging others to do so. If you fail to adhere to these conditions, TikTok will delete your content from the app.
5. Contains Graphic Content
Extremely violent, gruesome, violent content is strictly prohibited on TikTok. Videos showing gore, accidents, graphic deaths, torture or “dismembered, mutilated, charred, or burned human remains” will instantly be taken off the website.
