A Millennial woman seems to have a complicated relationship with men. More than anything, we finding it extremely hard to connect and settle down. Unlike our mothers, we are not ready to settle down with the first tolerable man who shows interest in us. This isn’t entirely because we are expecting equal effort from a man, but also because we have a different outlook towards relationships in general.
For us, relationships are a process. We are no longer:
– settling down with men older than us
– catering to men with problematic opinions
– and most importantly, we are NOT compromising
A Heterosexual millennial woman is not afraid of commitment, rather it’s almost a stepping stone for us in a relationship. Here are five things women my age are looking for in a partner:
1. MEN WHO’RE IN TOUCH WITH THEIR FEELINGS
This may sound like something generic but a women these days craves nothing more than a guy who’s in touch with his feelings. Having the ability to communicate and process their thoughts and feelings is the number one challenge. There’s nothing sexier than a man who’s sensitive, receptive and demonstrative.
2. MEN WHO RESPECT SPACE
There is nothing more attractive than a man who understands what you’re going through and empathizes with you, even if he can’t help. Millennial women understand that it isn’t somebody’s responsibility to fix them, especially their partner’s. However, something we definitely want is, support. Somebody who respect’s our space and our life outside of marriage.
3. MEN WHO TAKE EQUAL RESPONSIBILITY IN HOUSEWORK AND CHILDCARE
While a millennial woman thrives for financial dependence, it’s not like we want to cut down on house work. We believe cooking and house chores to be life skills that every individual should be equipped with. Childcare is also a part of this.
It may be termed as “mother care” but it does not in any way indicate the absence of a father figure. These gender roles are shattered everyday with the increasing number of stay at home dads.
4. MEN WHO SUPPORT OUR CAREERS
In addition to respecting our personal spaces, we absolutely adore men who support our ambitions. Men who aren’t threatened by a woman earning more or being celebrated more are the sort of men we’re looking for.
5. MEN WHO ARE PRAGMATIC
We’re looking for love but we’re hella realistic about it, no kidding. Gone are the days when we were looking for “the one”. Soulmates are for jaded generations, we’re looking for practical matches now. We want to grow together, succeed together and share adventures together (perhaps individually also).
But mostly, we are not in a hurry. We’re taking our time, building our futures and supporting our friends and family. Because for us we are a priority. We’ll extend love and support but we expect the same energy from our partners.
Don’t worry boys, you definitely have it better! Girls today are not afraid of commitment. We also do not expect a 6 figure salary, we’ll accept you with your knowledge of basic life skills. We’re willing to partner up, if you are!
