It’s that time of week again when we recap the performances that hit the high notes in Pakistani dramas. Here’s a list of actors who impressed us with their performances this week. Read on!
Danyal Zafar as Sar Buland in Zanjeerain
Danyal delivered a super performance as Sar Buland in Zanjeerain. His breakdown in front of Rabiya as he struggled to come to terms with the loss of his loved ones, feeling tired, and defeated, despite showing a calm appearance spoke volumes for the character who has endeared himself to audiences.
Sajal Aly as Rabiya in Zanjeerain
Rabiya is coming into her own and we’re looking forward to the courage, strength and determination that is the wholesome force of this character. Sajal Aly masterfully navigated loss, tragedy, sorrow and now, a gradual comeback as the old Rabiya who braces herself to support Sar Buland against the challenges he faces now.
Reza Ali Abid as Sohrab in Zanjeerain
Raza turns out a finely tuned performance in every episode; from conveying his regret and sadness over the loss of Sher Bano, to his dark side, as he plans to overcome Sar Buland, to his weakness – Shirin, one wonders how we are able to see a grey shade to this very evil character. It is all in the expressions and Raza Abid, through his body language, intense gaze and restrained tone, brings it altogether convincingly. Well done, Raza.
Anayah Shahid as Shirin in Zanjeerain
Anayah continues to keep us engaged; her blatant desire for a world that was well beyond her reach, the way she gets ready to meet Sohrab, her expressions and body language along with onscreen interaction with Raza Abid as Sohrab has us invested. Shirin will stop at nothing to get what she wants and we’re waiting to see how and if she will ever be defeated. Anayah is doing a great job at essaying a very intense and interesting character onscreen.
Saba Hamid as Dr. Farheen in Doctor Bahu
Many women saw themselves reflected off the screen in Dr. Farheen. Saba Hamid played a character that endeared itself to many – her honesty, heartbreak, and sense of confusion even when she thought she was sure about her choices in life revealed a glimpse into the lives of many women who struggle to make sense of their relationships. Saba Hamid essayed Dr. Farheen with a fine sensitivity that endeared her to audiences, and we were sad to see her go.
Ahad Raza Mir as Haroon in Aik Mohabbat Aur
Ahad continues to represent a character who means well, does and often says the right thing – (sometimes not though), but also tries to mind his own business – a character many young men might align with. His support of his sister-in-law Maham won hearts and his sensitive conversation with his parents, trying to make them see the light visavis their daughter in-law, was perhaps the highlight of the episode. That, coupled with the karhi-chawal proposal nailed it for audiences.
Farhan Saeed as Anas in Bas Tera Saath Ho
Anas is still trying to come out of his shell, but Farhan balances the character so sensitively that just as we’re about to feel the frustration, Anas reminds us how hard it is for him to overcome his childhood trauma; he hesitates but then tries to stay strong for Ansa. There is a slight shift in his character and it s great to see how Farhan is taking along audiences as he travels the arc of the character, budging forward ever so slightly, gathering courage in successive episodes.
Faran Tahir as Mursaleen in Bas Tera Saath Ho
Faran Tahir nailed the shock of a father when he discovers Shereen is hiding something from him. His anger, disappointment, fear, and disbelief conveyed impactfully throughout his interaction with her; from the first call in the restaurant to the call from his car, and then, trying to talk to her at home while Shazia kept shifting to Anas and Ansa’s problems. Mursaleen is under immense pressure and yet trying to keep his family together – Faran is doing full justice to the role.
