Little Things – The Show that tells us not to wait for the next ‘Big Thing’ to happen in life, not to set goals for our happiness, and not to tether our dreams to achieving the ‘Big picture’ – because – relationships thrive on the ‘Little Things’ in life!

It’s Complicated
Okay, let’s set one thing straight for now, that the age we are living in is actually complicated no matter what boomers say and compare it with. Not saying that any of this was easier for the boomers but we millennials are on an unstoppable quest for satisfaction.
What premiered as a quirky romantic show from Dice Media on YouTube in 2016, became an unofficial guide for every millennial within its first season. Season 2 and 3 were later taken under the Netflix banner and consequently, Little Things managed to grab a fatter chunk of the audience.
The series is set in Mumbai where a couple in their mid-twenties are living together. Life happens to Dhruv and Kavya, just like the rest of us, but their appreciation of the little things in life makes it all worthwhile.

We learn 10 extraordinary things that might help prosper in our own relationships.
1. There is No Plot to Life
Life doesn’t follow a Handbook or a perfect formula – it just happens!
With each episode bringing something new, Little Things tells us that each day comes with its own ups and downs, each relationship in our life requires a different kind of effort, and there can never be a formula for living just right.
2. Growing Old Together
Aging doesn’t mean you’re getting weak.
“We all grow up and our parents don’t really get that, but we are all busy on our adventures.” – Kavya
Something that not only millennials, but boomers too are scared of is aging. But Little Things shows us that when you age together, it means that you are growing up with that person.
3. No space for gender stereotypes, please
When the husband stays home to cook, and the wife goes out to work.
Little Things has to be the closest thing to a desi show normalizing a world where it is okay for Dhruv to cook and clean when Kavya goes out and works. Where it’s okay to not follow a stereotypical career enforced upon you by the society or even worse your loved ones.
4. What you have is your NOW
“It’s good to remember fun thing about exes and forget the bad shit. Otherwise how will you date again?” – Druv
Whatever you have with you is your present, and what you don’t have, shouldn’t stop you from missing out on the little moments of life that are precious now.

5. For Heaven’s Sake, Communicate
“You must know it’s good to come back to familiar places.” – Druv
Most relationships fall apart because of lack of communication. You can’t expect to move on if you nurture resentfulness in your heart. Try to listen to, and say what you want from the other person. In short, communicate. Communication will help clarify expectations and clear the air. Communication is the foundation for strong relationships. So start now!
6. Find extra in your own ordinary
“You were right when you said we are not extraordinary people, we have to work extra hard each day to make our everyday special.” – Kavya
One of the things we were shown from the very beginning is that Dhruv and Kavya know that they are not extraordinary and they stop chasing an unrealistic dream. They realize that they can be happy in living an ordinary life and without comparing themselves to others.
7. Believe In Your Loved Ones
When Kavya says that: “She’s not feeling the job she’s working at”, it is the way Dhruv supports her, that speaks volumes.
Little Things constantly reminds us that, despite the circumstances, you should never doubt your loved ones and their capabilities to do something they are great at. Tell them you believe in them, and once you support them you will see them shining so bright.
8. Loneliness sucks, but your happiness is independent
“It has nothing to do with us being together, it’s just that I found her happiness somewhere else.” – Kavya
In season 3 we see Kavya and Dhruv living away from each other for the first time. This is no less than a nightmare not only millennials but also boomers – loneliness and solitude can really test a relationship. But what it teaches you is bigger than everything; you should always depend on your own self first for your own emotional comfort and happiness.

By setting ourselves one goal after another, life is going by so fast that we miss out on a lot, especially on our relationships, and this includes both intimate and non-intimate ones. With the days passing by so fast, it is no doubt tougher to spare time for something other than the big picture we are after, right? Wrong! Watch ‘Little Things’ to find out just how wrong we are!
