A beautiful ending to Kim and Dawood’s journey in Yunhi. The script must be praised for advocating that any change we make in life should be for your ourselves and for your own beliefs, not because we are in love with someone or want to make a relationship work. The best moment was Kim finally calling him “Dawood”.

Kim’s Dilemma
Kaneez Fatima refuses to stay back in Pakistan despite Dawood and everyone asking her to, despite discovering that Dr. Fizza and Dawood had nothing between them. Looks like she had understood that she needed to sort out things in her mind on her own and she needed time to process her thoughts. Most importantly, she had realized that if any change has to happen, it has to be because she wants to herself … irrespective of Dawood’s presence in her life. Her motivation for change could not be her relationship with Dawood.
The Elders In Our Family
Dada jee’s character also highlighted how keeping our elders active and involved in everyday activities and work can give them better mental and physical health. The way the narrative balanced both Kim and Dawood’s journey, and the way they realized their priorities in life was moving and commendable, and perhaps, more relatable.
We wish Yunhi had come up with better reasoning for Kim refusing to stay back, rather than just telling Dawood that “You are right, I have other mohabbetain in my life. Today I will stay back because of you, tomorrow I can leave you because of those”. To stay back can be because of Dawood but to change has to be because of herself. It was clear that she was confused… maybe she is asking Dawood for time could have been a better guidance for all those facing such a situation.
So, was Dawood just plain jealous of George and had actually doubted Kim’s intentions? Was it ego between the two? We wish Dawood had tried more to discover the real reasons behind Kim’s actions.
A Super-Fast Change
Though we loved how the drama sent out a clear message that Kim changed because of her own accord, that relationships require both parties to be able to accept each other and not take decisions in haste but showing all changes in Kim’s character by mapping them over a series of episodes rather than showing them right towards the end, might have been more relatable.
Did Yunhi need to show Kim taking a Hijab?
It could have worked both ways. Since this is a particular story about Dawood and his family who are particular about attire, so maybe Kim’s decision to take a Hijab, (the idea of which was suggested by Dawood’s family’s lifestyle), made sense in that her journey included this change as well. We are also assuming it is not just taking the Hijab, it is an overall change in her, as she says, she took out time to study her religion too.
But if Kim had returned without it and had accepted Dawood and his lifestyle, developed understanding and respect for it and experienced other changes in herself, in her views and practices, it would have been fine too, as Dawood never forced hos perceptions on her, and always gave her the freedom to be who she was. Taking the Hijab was Kim’s decision and does not necessarily mean that every person who embraces the Faith with all heart must do so by taking the Hijab.
Thank you team Yunhi for giving us a beautiful story that was relatable on many levels. There were some awesome performances. The script successfully challenged many stereotypical ideologies without being preachy or boring.
