Malala has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine conflicts. But X is livid, terming her statement as being ‘too neutral’

Tensions and violence in Palestine-Israel have erupted once again, leaving more than 1200 dead in Israel and 900 dead in Gaza. Reports claim Israel has declared war on the Palestinian militant group, Hamas after they carried out an unprecedented attack by air, land and sea this past Saturday. There has been global outrage at the destruction, loss of life and continued atrocities against humanity in the Holy land.
Naturally and as it should be, to reaffirm any semblance of humanity left in us, many celebrities, public figures and politicians are coming forward with a take and rather carefully orchestrated statements on these current events. Internationally some are coming forward for Israel’s support and some in Palestine’s. While we know where we stand, many Pakistanis’ and Muslims globally are rushing to respond to Malala Yousafzai’s statement regarding the Palestine-Israel conflict on Twitter. Many who are disappointed and a few who think there is no harm in staying neutral and hoping for a good outcome for both sides.
After all, she received the Nobel Prize for her fight for children’s education and not world peace and ending wars. But should she not be standing against the perpetrators, ones responsible for those children dying in wars when they should be studying in schools? While Malala Yousafzai has tried to keep it neutral, perhaps keeping silent would have been the better alternative or at least calling upon those governments who can intervene and initiate dialogue rather than add more fire to the fuel would have saved her from some of the twitter wrath.
Here is the livid debate taking place on X right now:
Is Malala Mindlessly Calling For Peace?
Just mindlessly calling for peace in the Israel and Palestine conflict without acknowledging the decades of oppression, looting, and theft faced by Palestinians is just liberal hypocrisy. Malala Yousafzai is not at fault; one doesn’t bite the hand that feeds #Gaza
Does She Still Need Time To Process It All Fully?
Has @Malala processed the tragic news of the Israeli war crimes against Palestinians? or does she still need more time? The statement she put out was pathetic.
Her Statement Doesn’t Help
Malala has done a big favor for us by giving a neutral statement on Palestine. How are we gonna pay her back?
Malala Needs To Be More Vocal
@Malala be more vocal plz against these atrocities by #Israel, your voice can be heard across
West’s Tout?
Malala is what she will always be. The West’s tout. That’s how you win a politicized noble peace prize just like Obama won it after carpet bombing and droning a dozen countries. Her privileges are a result of towing a specific line. They will pull the plug the moment she deviates.
And here are some tweets that give us the other side of the opinions. Ones that claim her being neutral is not the worst crime.
Malala Just Wanted Girls To Go To School! She Is Not Sold Out
malala was never some leftist pioneer she just wanted young girls to go to school! And that’s ok! But we don’t need to pretend like she sold out to the west cause this is totally in line with her values!
Disappointing But Doesn’t Make Her A Zionist
okay after some time i think gigi and malala’s statements are disappointing but it doesn’t mean they’re zionists. it’s veering too neutral imo and yes we should have empathy. i get why they wrote it like that but i feel like they should drive the point more on a free palestine
In Actuality, Her Help Goes Beyond Customary Tweets
Malala’s help for Palestine goes beyond customary tweets and statements. Her help is the kind that makes an actual on ground impact. One can like or dislike her tweet but to label her a “western agent” or “foreign stooge” only shows jealousy and hatred of petty irrelevant people
But do you think these are times when we must urge those in charge and in power to be fair and responsible when taking a stance on political, social or moral grounds? Influencers such as Malala whose voice is heard on a global platform needs to be more vocal on urging international bodies and governments to reach a settlement rather than playing it safe with tweets that might do more harm than good with a diluted message that doesn’t really say much to suggest a solution.
So, do you think she is being too neutral and hypocritical or we are being unfair and asking too much as she stays true to her fight for children?
