The genius of Kashif Nisar and Zafar Mairaj in Kabli Pulao has brought us to a point where we feel equally for Haji Mushtaaq and Baraan. Our heart goes out to Barbeena who cannot share her problems with anyone, and it seems unfair that she should be facing this all alone.
Heartfelt Moments
Zubaida asking Barbeena about what really happened and then telling Ayesha that nothing happens without Allah’s will was a heart-breaking moment – a scene which, the moment we watched it, made us realize: “Oh we needed so much to see this, we wanted Barbeena to comfort her, to tell her Haji Mushtaq is not to be blamed.” However, we wish Ayesha wouldn’t react so strongly.
Should Harassment Be Hidden?
Baraan arrived just in time to save Barbeena. But should they be hiding the incident from Haji Mushtaq? It is extremely frustrating to witness this and that Ghaffar keeps getting away with his evil actions. Why can’t Chamo take a stand, how can she still stay silent about someone who attempted rape right in front of her? We wish her character was granted some margin for redemption later on. Right now, Chamo is treading the same path as Ghaffar and must be censured equally. Sometimes we become the biggest perpetrator of crime by remaining silent or covering it up. She is no longer the victim but even, moving closer to being a knowing accomplice?
Respect For Barbeena
It is interesting to note how Barbeena doesn’t falter even for a second on her decision about Baraan. Every time he has approached her or asked her to leave with him, she has clearly said no, even if she has undergone extreme pain, and deep down, feels for him. Maybe that is the reason we hold immense respect for her, and we feel deeply for both Baraan and her.
Poor Barbeena, it is not fair that she has to go through this torture – to have to see Baraan all the time, so near her. After all, they have been husband and wife and also in love. We feel like crying with her at the irony of the situation. To add to her misery, she cannot even confide in anyone. She has no one to share this pain or even talk about Ghaffar attempting to rape her.
Baraan Has His Eyes On Ghaffar
Baraan and Ghaffar’s face-off at the dining table was interesting as Haji sahib asked Baraan to not only sit at the table but asked him to stay at the house. Baraan’s expressions were enough to tell Ghaffar he better stay away and be careful as now, Baraan will be keeping an eye on him. Barbeena is panicking and asking Baraan to leave.
