The recent episode of Kabli Pulao was heart wrenching, Barbeena grapples with inner turmoil. But we think she should have confided in Haji Mushtaq regarding Ghaffar’s actions.

It’s no news how Kabli Pulao is a drama that is continuing to touch many hearts with a distinct storyline, raw emotions and complex, deep, enthralling characters. It’s definitely a roller coaster of emotions keeping us hooked with every successive episode. The characters have truly come alive in the drama. With the language excellence, body language, accent, facial expressions – it all adds up to being at par with global content.
The recent episode set a new low for Ghaffar and yet adds another worry/danger for Barbeena. Ghaffar takes advantage of the fact that Haji Mushtaq wasn’t present and enters Barbeena’s room and harasses her. Saqib Sumeer depicts the harrowing, low life that is Ghaffar with astounding brilliance. So, we won’t lie, Ghaffar getting a sound beating from Baraan was the best part of the episode for us and many more viewers.
We Are Disappointed In Chammo
But even more so, we are exceedingly disappointed in Chammo for still not being able to stand up to Ghaffar or at the very least, ensuring he faces the repercussions or maybe even thinking about leaving him. Yes, she is weak, powerless and already traumatized and scared of Ghaffar but how can she continue to want to be with him, let him get away with it and have the gall to ask Barbeena to not tell Haji Sahib the truth? This makes her equally at fault in the crime of harassment against Barbeena. We really think it’s time Chammo redeems her self-respect and holds Ghaffar accountable, not place unreasonable demands on Barbeena and make sure Ghaffar faces the repercussions.
The situation between Baraan, Barbeena and Haji Sahib is untenable and now that ‘Mazdak’ will be living with them, the reckoning is probably soon to be witnessed by all. Barbeena should tell Haji Sahib everything herself. It’s getting too frustrating how Ghaffar is crossing limits, and no one is doing anything or he’s not getting punished for it. Audiences too agree Chammo needs to stand up and give Ghaffar the proverbial and literal slap in the face.
General Disposition Towards Victims
Female victims of harassment have been questioned often as to why they speak up much later after the event occurrence rather than right then and there. Although it still does not justify why they cannot speak up later because it takes courage to speak up on something that many still find taboo or deeply disturbing, it also renders them numb, and they need to cope with a lot immediately after a harrowing incident such as harassment. Barbeena is probably manifesting the same behaviour like that typical harassment victim who is so overwhelmed by what happened that she cannot speak up instantly (plus Chammo doesn’t help either), but looking at how things have fared in the past, it would be great to see her speaking up now to save herself for what may happen later. Ghaffar being the evil mind he is, is capable of fabricating a story against her to save himself.
Here are 5 reasons why we think Barbeena should tell Haji Mushtaq what has transpired:
1. Fair To Barbeena’s Character?
Barbeena has been the symbol of innocence, purity and honesty, no? So given that she always tells the truth, hiding such a big event from Haji Saab right now isn’t making sense and doing justice to her character.
2. Taking Action Before Ghaffar Sets His Evil Plan In Motion
Addressing it now would be more sensible so tomorrow people don’t point fingers at her or blame her for somehow encouraging Ghaffar, or doubting her word against his, questioning why she didn’t speak up earlier. It would only allow Ghaffar to make plans, and knowing him, he probably has an evil plan in place already to protect himself.
3. Barbeena Doesn’t Need To Internalize
Why does one need to always internalize trauma, absorb all the hurt and pain. Why does she always have to think about Haji Sahib’s mental and emotional wellbeing first? Shouldn’t we let the other person decide if they can handle it or not? Why does she always need to be the strong one in the relationship? Bareena doesn’t need to take it all in now, she needs her husband to be there for her and also handle the situation accordingly, since Ghaffar is his relative and an ever looming threat in the house for her.
4. Relationship Golas & Communication
If she’s married Haji Mushtaq, Barbeena has to trust him with open communication. Much as the two of them were giving us relationship goals, this lack of communication from her side is jeopardizing her relationship. She has already hidden Baraan’s identity from him, and now she is helping Chammo protect the vile person Ghaffar is. All these incidents happening one after another, are adding up. It’s not Baraan’s part to protect her yet he is, rather, it is her husband’s.
5. Isn’t Barbeena Indirectly Contributing To Protecting Ghaffar?
It’s dangerous for anybody to be living in the same house as their harasser. A harasser like Ghaffar to be living in the same house as Barbeena is only calling for more harm and trouble. Barbeena, in her silence, is actually protecting harassers like Ghaffar.
What is your viewpoint on this? Do you think Barbeena should tell Haji Mushtaq everything already or her decision was right in the moment?
