Life is unfair – the phrase hits hard when we see Barbeena stuck between Haji Mushtaq and Baraan in Kabli Pulao. From rooting for Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena, we suddenly find ourselves wondering if she should rightfully be with Baraan.

Baraan vs Haji Mushtaq
When Kabli Pulao started, we wanted Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq to be together, then we wanted them to have a real relationship borne out of respect and mutual feelings for each other. But now, thanks to a great script and great direction, we have arrived at a point where we feel deeply for Baraan. Maybe we feel that what he is undergoing is unfair. Baraan, who served more as an excuse or a distraction to create complications in Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena’s relationship is now a vital part of the story, and we are fully invested in what happens to him. We are questioning: Why shouldn’t Barbeena go with Baraan?
Haji’s Pain
It was endearing to see Haji Mushtaq ask Barbeena why she couldn’t talk to him directly and what had she told Ayesha. We could see that it pained him to note that Barbeena is not allowing him a glimpse inside her mind; there is a barrier between the two now. It was heart-breaking to see Haji Mushtaq feeling lost and missing Barbeena once she left for Pindi.
Baraan’s Pain
Baraan showing his wounds to Barbeena, seeing her things in the washroom, the reality of Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq hitting him like never before, and the realisation that he will lose her forever, that he must let her go, was immensely moving.
Barbeena’s Pain
Till now, maybe we really thought that her relationship with Haji Mushtaq had reached a point that it was enough to overcome anything she felt for, or shared with Baraan, but when she cried before Hajra, the realization of her loss and the intensity of her feelings hit hard. More importantly, we grew to respect her even more now, for choosing to honor her relationship with Haji Mushtaq despite everything. Barbeena’s strong exterior crumbles when Baraan talks about another woman. She is jealous and Baraan can see that.
Ghaffar’s Misery
Thank God someone finally put an end to Ghaffar’s stay in the house. Although we are not surprised, only Ayesha could have done it. Ayesha’s bond with Haji Mushtaq is truly heart winning. Though we objected at the time, when Ramsha recorded the conversation between Baraan and Barbeena, it all fell into place in this episode. The way the script led Haji Mushtaq to discover the truth was well thought-out and executed. Just a humble suggestion, the recording by Ramsha could have been shown to be an accident and not on purpose.
Barbeena’s Choices
Is it fair to expect Barbeena to make a choice? No matter whom she chooses, can she ever forget the other person? Can she ever move on? And the person she chooses, can he live with the guilt of taking her away from the other one? They both love her genuinely and honestly want the best for her.
