3 Pakistani Dramas That We Recommend You Watch In 2024!

This year played a pivotal role in presenting us with dramas that deviated from conventional narratives. These unique stories were a delight to watch, leaving us slightly melancholic as they concluded. Here are three dramas that we strongly recommend! Viewers couldn’t stop expressing their enthusiasm, critics continuously applauded them, and their impact even transcended borders.

However, you may be wondering why we consider these Pakistani dramas a must-watch in the first place. These three recommendations offer diversity, resonate with contemporary themes, and provide an enjoyable viewing experience, all while showcasing the remarkable abilities of the Pakistani drama industry.

Dive Into The Crime-Thriller World Of Jhok Sarkar

Jhok Sarkar is directed by Saife Hassan and written by Hashim Nadeem. The drama on HUM TV stars Farhan Saeed, Asif Raza Mir, Hiba Bukhari, Maham Shahid, Faiza Gilani, Usman Javed, Saqib Sumeer and Sakina Samo, Usman Javed, Malik Raza, Saad Azhar, Hasan Niazi, among others. The drama set in the village of Jhok Siyal no doubt, upped the game in Pakistani drama genres and also served a dual purpose. You ask what? The story did not only elevate the direction game, execution and all, but also claimed its space in the otherwise neglected or rather untouched genre of crime thriller in the Pakistani drama space. It clearly set the standards in the niche genre, and with style!

Clever Cocktail Of Thrill, Mystery, Action & Crime

Jhok Sarkar has cleverly crafted this cocktail of thrill, mystery, action and crime along with a sprinkling of sweet romance! The story has had a charming and righteous, brave hero whose screen presence has been truly gripping. The unfolding of the narrative has been authentically captivating, marked by a nuanced ebb and flow that crafted a hero whose journey felt grounded and authentic.

Saife Hassan direction was artistically skilful, simply a splendor and the writing and portrayal never gave us dull moment. The storyline was compelling, a balanced tug of war between the good and evil. Farhan Saeed as ASP Arsalan easily won all our hearts! His impactful messages, unmatched style and charm set him apart. The subdued chemistry between Farhan Saeed & Hiba Bukhari’s character created a visually captivating experience. Even the villains in the drama are just as convincing and compelling, offering distinct flavours of evils. Each actor in the drama from the leads to the supporting cast gave a wonderful, sublime performance – never breaking away from their characters.

Even though Jhok Sarkar, the drama is set in a village, it still connected with and engrossed audiences of all ages. It never once diverted our attention or gave the impression of being outdated or set in a distant era.The director covered the vast landscapes rather grandly. Strategically leveraging the locations artistically resulting in visually striking scenes. The drama also didn’t forget to highlight important causes such as equal rights for minorities. Despite being a male centric drama, they hearteningly did justice to their female leads, a true women empowerment drama.

It’s the very first time we saw women in the drama, not shying away from action and defending themselves, leading charge. What a joy it brought watch them being equally significant in the storyline and play their part in fixing it all. The female leads stand out with their strength, substance and how empowered they are. The logic and intelligent thought process of the writers and directors made for an interesting crime, mystery watch. Every scene is meticulously crafted, seamlessly linked to the preceding one, and rises to the occasion.

The Unconventionally Sweet & Savoury, Kabli Pulao

The television project, helmed by writer Zafar Mairaj and directed by Kashif Nisar, is a collaborative effort between Q&K Productions and Multiverse Entertainment on Green Entertainment. This dynamic presentation brings together a talented cast, featuring Muhammad Ehteshamuddin, Sabeena Farooq, Nadia Afgan, Adnan Shah Tipu, Haseeb Khan, Munazzah Arif, Saqib Sameer, Farzana Taheem, Rahima Khan, Abdullah Farhatullah, Umer Dar, Fajjar Khan, Naina Black, Sikander Rajput, Waqas Shahzad, Umair Koreja, Momina Sohail, Isbah, Mahin, Faizan Dar, Rasheed Ali, Arshad Niazi, Saad Hussain, Naeem Kashmiri, and Usman Chaudry. With this diverse ensemble, the production promises a compelling narrative brought to life by a team of accomplished individuals in the industry.

From An Undiscovered Gem To Global Sensation

It’s no news how Kabli Pulao is a drama that continued to touch many hearts with a distinct storyline, raw emotions and complex, deep, enthralling characters. It has been definitely a roller coaster of emotions that kept us hooked with every successive episode. The characters truly came alive in the drama, with the language excellence, body language, accent, facial expressions – it all added up to being at par with global content.

Kabli Pulao, began its journey as an undiscovered gem in the realm of Pakistani Dramas, finally soon emerging as a global sensation it rightfully earned its acclaim. It defied conventions, presenting a narrative devoid of traditional hero or heroine archetypes. Far from the ordinary love story, it stood as a seamless work of art intertwining societal taboos with an uncommon and extraordinary love tale. Audiences agreed that it redefined the concept of love, focusing on elements such as respect, acceptance, the challenges of combating societal norms in relationships and marriage. Additionally, the drama shed light on crucial issues like marital abuse and navigating the pitfalls of unreciprocated love without succumbing to toxicity.

Though, the drama did not have a very commercial run of the mill cast, yet it still managed to make a dent in the industry. It has set a benchmark, challenging other creators to strive for distinctiveness and excellence. It is a drama that sort of threw us back to the PTV era with the strong script without solely depending on the power of actors with huge instagram following to make it the drama a hit. We are hoping that there is more where that came from.

It serves as a reminder that a drama’s success goes beyond the popularity of its cast on social media. The unspoken love and more so respect between Barbeena and Haji Mushtaq and their journey to Kabli Pulao connected with many, young and old. Makes you realise love has no age or borders.

Moving On With Times – Jannat Se Aagay

Jannay Se Aagay is spearheaded by writer Umera Ahmed, directed by Haseeb Hassan, and produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment on Geo Entertainment. The stellar cast features Kubra Khan in the role of Jannat Ali Khan, Ramsha Khan as Tabassum, Talha Chahour portraying Farooq, Gohar Rasheed as Noman, Sheheryar Zaidi embodying Abid, Hina Bayat playing Shabana, Faiza Gillani as Sirya, Saboor Aly taking on the character of Zara, Daniya Anwar as Naseem, Sara Ashraf as Andleeb, Aina Asif portraying Aasia, Hoorain Khan as Aima, Ayesha Jahanzaib as Aalia, Aiman Zaman as Chanda, Hamza Tariq as Jibran, and Lubna Aslam as Tasneem.

By A Woman, For Women With Women

At first thought, Jannat Se Aagay splendidly depicted a topic sitting right under our noses for the longest time. It successfully blended high viewership with impactful social messages.A totally women centric drama, the storyline did not in any way involve the same stale, toxic saas-bahu saga or a man cheating on his wife. The narrative is truly from a woman, with women for women!

The female characters and leads stood to make you think, making one realize how seemingly simple, unconscious habits can contribute to a negative mindset and harmful conditioning. The influence of morning show culture in Pakistan is examined, shedding light on its potential role in shaping unrealistic ideologies that affect our mental well-being. This prompts a consideration of why and how we should actively counteract such influences.

“Jannat Se Aagay” explores the themes of identity, personal aspirations, and the potential consequences of idolizing others and takes a deep dive into the world of obsessive fandom. The story follows the journey of Jannat – a majorly successful morning show host and her majorly obsessive fan, Tabassum as they both navigate their dreams, relationships, and the inherent challenges of discovering their true selves.

Jannat Se Aagay is another one of the must watch Pakistani Dramas due to the power packed performances of each actor, a sharp direction along with a progressive and thought provoking narrative. It is prime, good quality content steering clear of portraying women solely in the context of extramarital affairs or as damsels in distress mistreated by their in-laws and families. Instead, it progresses towards aligning more closely with contemporary realities by showcasing successful women. These women are professionals with aspirations, adept at balancing work and personal life, navigating friendships, and managing relationships.

Which of the above Pakistani Dramas have you watched and plan to rewatch all over again?
