Rah-e-Junoon – Shouldn’t Meher be scared of Shabrez? Can love really to blind us to the red flags that are right in front of us? Meher didn’t seem to think Shabrez did anything wrong by imprisoning her in the classroom and not allowing her to go home. Most importantly, where was everyone else in the college, that no one found them locked in the classroom?

Same Old?
While we were hoping the drama might take a somewhat different route, sadly it is sending out the same old narrative. The fact that in today’s day and age, a father refuses to accept love marriage or allow his daughter to marry of her own choice seems very unlikely. Yes, if the guy she wants to marry is not suitable, then some resistance can be justified but not in Meher’s case.
On the other hand, how can the parents of a son announce his wedding in public without letting him in on the ahem, (well kept) secret! Is this really 2023 going onto 2024? How can one sister throw another one out, when their parents are alive and why? Because the father refuses to marry Zara before Meher? One questions the logic behind these actions.
Red Flag Alert
Meher didn’t seem to think that Shabrez’s extreme behavior is something she should be really concerned about. How unreasonable, selfish and threatening he had become in the classroom made him a big NO in our books. Instead, she was teary eyed when he tells her that he will take his life if she marries anyone else. When she goes back home and calls him, he is perfectly normal, and she doesn’t find it odd that he can swing from one extreme to another so easily.
Was Shabrez always like this, or has Meher’s love triggered something inside him? Where was everyone in the college? Shabrez and Meher were locked inside the classroom for quite some time, but no one came upon them – Another questionable incident in Rah-e-Junoon. Interestingly, Meher kept her wits about her and convinced Shabrez of her loyalty and love.
Shabrez’s Parents Don’t Care
Shabrez’s parents do not care about him at all. They have no time for him. Now they have even announced his engagement without his consent. How will he ever convince them to take his proposal to Meher’s house? This seems to be a huge task now. After just 3 episodes in, it remains to be seen if Rah-e-Junoon will stick to the angry young man narrative we’ve seen played out umpteen times onscreen. We so hope there’s a twist in the tale!
