The band, which was once called “Turiyananda Sangit,” originally started in 1973 with British guitarist John McLaughlin, Indian tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, and percussionist Vikku Vinayakram. Later, violinist L. Shankar and the late mridangam maestro Ramnad Raghavan joined them. After releasing three albums, they took a break in 1977 but reunited in 2020 with McLaughlin, Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, V. Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan.
