As the anticipation for this year’s Aurat March builds, the organizers have revealed exciting plans for the event, alongside the announcement of the venue. In a recent Instagram post, they expressed their eagerness to return to Frere Hall, a historic location that witnessed the inaugural Aurat Marches in 2018 and 2019.
What’s particularly intriguing about this year’s Aurat March is the introduction of the “Ehtejaji Mela” alongside the traditional annual march. This addition aims to foster in-depth discussions on critical issues such as class, gender, ethnicity, and religion. The Ehtejaji Mela will serve as a vibrant platform for engaging with political art, encouraging contemplation on various social challenges.
Inclusion Of Food Stalls
A noteworthy aspect of this year’s Aurat March is the inclusion of food stalls operated by working-class women. With affordability in mind, the organizers aim to make the food accessible to people of all financial backgrounds, particularly the working-class women and khawaja siras who constitute nearly 50% of the regular attendees.
To encourage inclusive participation, the organizers have a message for cis-gendered men interested in joining the annual march. “If you are a cis man wishing to attend, don’t forget to come along with at least two women, khawaja siras, trans men and/or non-binary people, in order to be allowed entry,” stated the Instagram caption.
The Aurat March 2024 promises to be a unique and empowering experience, weaving together discussions, art, and the spirit of unity in the historic surroundings of Frere Hall.
