Mighty true, Asra! We can’t really disagree with you here. Kudos to 7th Sky for not only selecting such engaging, enthralling scripts but also presenting us with unexpected yet contemporary perspectives. They are challenging us to think outside the box, beyond the accepted norms. We never thought about it, but yes, why can’t girls send a proposal to a guy? What does it have to do with respect and tradition?
But beyond that, another factor that really resonated with audiences is the portrayal of Asra’s brother – the supportive, progressive, and caring brother we all wish for.
Asra’s Brother Sarwar Is The Brother All Girls Perhaps Wish For
Asra’s mother objects to her brother’s idea of taking Asra’s proposal to Sultan’s house, deeming it fundamentally wrong and questioning why the girl’s family should go. Sarwar’s response, however, has sparked a revolution, challenging traditional notions of masculinity, male characters, and marking a narrative shift.
A brother who, without any shame influenced by society, simply stated his objection to his mother – “Kyun kay Asra usey pasand karti hai”. Later, their mother shares the same, prevailing thoughts of a large faction of society, suggesting that if Asra bows down to them, she will never be able to hold her head high at her in-laws’. Sarwar, as a brother, is understanding, progressive, and for us, a revolutionary figure in our dramas. He didn’t judge her, ridicule her, or punish her for making a choice or loving someone. He understood that she has the right to choose, and what a great message that sends. Even without her asking or expressing her wishes, her brother knew what she wanted.
