Syed Mohammed Ahmed, also known as Mohammed Ahmed, is a versatile figure in Pakistani entertainment, excelling as a screenwriter, lyricist, actor, and director. Renowned for his contributions to numerous acclaimed series and telefilms like Mystery Theater, Badtameez, and Tum Se Kehna Tha. Notably, his portrayal of Agha Jan in Suno Chanda garnered acclaim. He has also made significant contributions beyond borders, having penned dialogues for the Indian film Tere Bin Laden. In recognition of his talent, he earned a Best Actor nomination at the 18th Lux Style Awards in 2019 for his role in the film Cake.
Shamim Hilaly, born in 1947 as Shamim Ahmed, is a prominent Pakistani actress renowned for her work in both films and television. With a distinguished career spanning decades, she has graced screens with her memorable performances in iconic PTV dramas like Barzakh, Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Mile, and Parosi, earning widespread praise. Notably, her portrayal in Maigh Malhar during the 1990s solidified her status as a versatile talent in the industry. Additionally, she holds the distinction of appearing in Pakistan’s sole English-language movie, Beyond The Last Mountain, released in 1976.
Together, Syed Mohammad Ahmed and Shamim Hilaly are currently the talk of the town for their roles in the recently concluded series, Contractors. 1. If you both were not actors, what would you be?
Shamim Hilaly: “I would’ve been a teacher”
Mohammed Ahmed: ” I would’ve been a doctor”
2. Cooking food or just eating?
Shamim Hilaly: “Bana na! Obviously, cooking! There’s this amazing Biryani we have in our family, that for sure”
Mohammed Ahmed: “Khana Khana! Only eating, specially the food cooked by Shamim!”
3. One memorable incident from the sets of Contractors?
Shamim Hilaly: “There were a lot like those in Contractors! But I remember one day we were shooting in a really small car, Mehreen and the audio people were too in the same car and I just kept forgetting my lines. I had 4 lines but I took a hour and a half strangely at night and Ahmed was driving the car….”
4. On that note we asked Shamim Hilaly how well does Mohammad Ahmed drive?
Shamim Hilaly: Shamim joked, “iss mai tou kam chalai but im sure qabil driver hogay!“
Mohammed Ahmed: He laughed and very casually stated: “Mai chor chka houn raat ko raat ko nazar nae ata!”
5. What’s the best and worst part of working with each other?
Shamim Hilaly: “Let me think of the worst first, okay, so Ahmed ko sari line yaad hoti hain. The best is he’s an amazing actor and co-actor, very supportive, humorous, always good vibes!”
Mohammed Ahmed: “There’re a lot of benefits about working with Shamim. Ek bata sakta houn, khana aisa lati hai kay ek din khaye aur das din tak yaad karay. She brings really amazing food! Worst part is her ghussa, especially when the script is written by me, I always try her not to read it in front of me”
6. Stories that you want to watch on screen and also want to be a part of?
Shamim Hilaly: “Real life stories”
Mohammed Ahmed as always, being his witty self, said: “Jisme mein acha lagun“
7. One advice that you would give to your younger self?
Shamim Hilaly: “To have been more courageous!”
Mohammed Ahmed: “Don’t become a writer!”
8. 3 items on your bucket list
Shamim Hilaly: “A little bit of travel, I want to go to specific places, ab wou din guzar gaye jab ap sightseeing karay and I want holidays where I don’t do anything. I just want to look at specific places. South America but mai jasakati nae, who would climb so many stairs and mountains? I must visit Iran though, I heard it’s beautiful!”
Mohammed Ahmed: “Same, same! I want to visit Japan once. Mujhay Japan dekhna hai, I have seen such beautiful pictures.”
9. When you feel low, What’s the one thing that cheers you up?
Shamim Hilaly: “Marzipan with a little bit of chocolate and that’s it!”
Mohammed Ahmed: “Maybe I would listen to a good song aur wo bhi koi purana!”
10. What’s your life moto?
Shamim Hilaly: “Mera tou koi life motto nae hai. Not something specific but honesty in everything that you do!”
Mohammed Ahmed: He agreed with Shamim and continued to say “Koi ek baat nae hou sakti!”
